Newspapers should be publicly financed. While I don't necessarily think print-media is the future, public-interest media definitely is.
American news media coverage of the Gaza Crisis has favored Israel. Our journalists have an odd amnesia about conditions in Gaza before the rocket attacks, the planning for this war since the last one, and they ignore the use of depleted uranium. Shills.
The government should not provide financial assistance to the print journalism industry. I could get behind a new Federal Writers Project, but I don't believe we should focus on print media. It's as dead as the cellulose it's written on.
Newspaper organizations are not necessary to maintain journalistic standards.
The use of the Internet has affected the English language. Natch.
Paparazzi should not be required to obtain permission from the people they photograph. Visual information is as free as any other.
It is ethical for journalism to be financed by crowdfunding. Corporate media won't take on corporate interests and the military/industrial complex. Only viewer-funded media can speak truth to power.
Crowdfunding is a viable way to fund reporting. We've come a long way from PBS. Check out The Real News Network and Gnooze.com -- there is a real demand for news that isn't corporate funded.
MSNBC is politically biased. What MSM isn't biased in some way?
The FCC should not relax its media ownership rules. It encourages further consolidation of big media.
Citizen journalism has a positive effect on news reporting. It keeps it real.
The U.S. should enact the Free Flow of Information Act.
Websites should allow anonymous comments.
Bloggers should be allowed to blog anonymously. Absolutely. Many blog about sensitive issues that require anonymity.
Internet gambling should not be banned. I don't particularly like it, but isn't letting people do what they like if they aren't hurting anyone what this country's all about?
Congress should pass legislation to mandate network neutrality on the Internet. Letting demand (URL requests) set supply makes a better intellectual marketplace.
The FCC should not strengthen indecency rules regarding broadcast television.
The Fairness Doctrine should not be reinstated.
Consolidation has a negative effect on the media.
Checkbook journalism is not an acceptable way to pursue news stories.
Fox News is not "fair and balanced." Newscorp pays no net taxes. How is that fair? Fox belongs to the right shoe of the influence peddlers.
