The 'War on Drugs' has not been effective in curbing illegal drug use.
Racial discrimination is still a significant problem in America. Alas.
Cats are better pets than dogs. You see all the dog owners congregating on sidewalks, in parks, and yards. But don't be fooled. We, like our cats, are a bit more private about it, that's all.
Parents should not have the right to refuse medical care for their children due to religious beliefs. This is a tough one. Up to a point, parents have the right to refuse treatments and interventions, in the name of religion or for other reasons. But in the event of major threat to the child, and if there is a reasonably effective medical cure available - which is the case that the current issue focuses upon - then the parents' wishes have to yield to other authority.
Carrie Prejean should not be stripped of her Miss California title.
Religious compatibility is an important component to a romantic relationship. Mixed relationships can work. But it's certainly "an important component," and an uphill battle if there are strong differences.
Economic downturns lead to increases in crime. I think it also leads to less civility, with people more on edge.
Gay marriage should be a state issue. Marriage is a state issue (not just "gay" marriage).
Selecting in-vitro embryos based on preferred genetic traits is not immoral. It sounds like people think it's immoral for other people to make these sorts of decisions, but it's okay when they themselves do it! I can't say it's immoral across the board. It certainly seems to be a misallocation of resources to use expensive techniques for trivial personal preferences, and some carefully worked out guidelines would certainly be appropriate. But who's to judge what's trivial? Susceptibility to disease, certainly not. Hair color? Sex? I can't be the arbiter.
Marijuana should be legal. Well, yeah, like, duh.
The Richland County Sheriff should not seek charges against Michael Phelps for allegedly smoking marijuana.
The legal drinking age should be 18. 18 is the new 21.
Local and state governments should not be able to use eminent domain to acquire and transfer properties that have public benefits for private uses.
There is no life after death. If there were, would there be death in that life? Life after that death?
Undocumented immigrants should be granted in-state tuition benefits. For those who were minors when they immigrated, yes, it should be possible.
Doubt can be part of faith.
Drugs should not be legalized. Some should, some shouldn't. But no blanket legalization.
There are no circumstances under which I support capital punishment. I don't support it, but I don't think it's nearly as important an issue as many people think. It affects very few criminal cases. I think time would be better spent on more general reforms of the system.
Gay public figures do not have a responsibility to disclose their sexual orientation. Neither do straight public figures have a responsibility to discuss, or disclose, their orientation. Only if they want to.
Marriage should be defined as a union between one man and one woman. I'm somewhat sympathetic to gay marriage, but I'm not there yet. Sorry. But it's ultimately up to the states, and it's only a matter of time . . .
The law should require people to wear seat belts.
Free will does exist.
Employers should be required to accommodate breastfeeding mothers in the workplace.
Children should be allowed to play video games.
Public displays of religious content should not be permitted; the government should refrain from endorsing any and all religions.
Government funds should not be used for religious purposes.
Drug sentencing laws in America are not fair.
Prisons should not be privatized.
There are no circumstances under which law enforcement should be privatized.
No-fault divorce should be available to couples.
Marijuana for medicinal use should be legalized.
The Constitution should not be amended to define marriage as a union between one man and one woman.
Schools should not teach Intelligent Design as a scientific theory.
The U.S. should not enact a constitutional amendment prohibiting the burning of the American flag.
Marijuana should be legal. Well, yeah, like, duh.
