There should be limits on the amount of damages awarded in medical malpractice suits. To say nothing of the money paid out in these awards, drs over -prescribe and over-diagnose their patients as preventive measures, purely out of fear they'll be blamed for an individual's health problem. This, of course, further jacks up the medical costs.

The outbreak of the influenza virus (Swine flu) in Mexico will become an international pandemic. The WHO just declared the Swine Flu to be the first flu pandemic in 41 years. I guess my foresight benefits from holding out from taking a stand.

Media coverage of the swine flu outbreak has not been overblown. It's been blown sufficiently. The information being disseminated comes from major international health organizations. They're the ones sounding the alarms. Sure, cable news might be sensationalizing it, but how is this different from every other story it covers? I'd prefer the overcautious attitude than that of ignorance.

Habitual consumption of marijuana is worse on one's personal health than habitual consumption of alcohol. Getting high three times a week is worse than drinking a glass of wine with dinner three times a week. But what's habitual? Alcoholism is MUCH worse than whatever marijuana's equivalent is. For now, I'm going to define "habitual use" as using in moderation a couple times a week...in which case alcohol is better.
