Saturday Night Live's depiction of David Paterson is not appropriate. All is fair-play when it comes to comedy (at least for now), but sometimes ya just have to draw the line ... poor taste, bad form and irrelevant.
Congress should not delay the transition to digital TV. We have had plenty of time to get this done. No excuses will suffice. Every rule will have it's exceptions and should be met accordingly, but to delay the whole? No.
It was a good decision for NBC to move Jay Leno to primetime. Sure why not ... he will be retiring soon and this is for the next guy .. besides I really don't care - :}
Awards are not a valid measure of a film's worth. Film awards have nothing to do with their "worth" which is at best just as subjective as any basis one might have for any award.
Celebrities are not obligated to behave as role models. Obligated? No, should they? Yes. Problem is, celebrities are often celebrities because they want to be and will do just about anything to keep their celebrity status. Today's role models are hardly celebrities.
Record labels will become obsolete. If the internet has anything to with it they will be in the next 5 to 10 years.
Radiohead's music is overrated. All music is overrated.
Michael Moore's portrayal of the American health care system is accurate. It was very close to the truth, even if he did take some artistic liberties.
The movie 'Juno' glorifies teenage pregnancy. Anything outside marriage is wrong. We have lost sight of the family as unit of love and compassion. The physical union, intercourse, of a woman and a man is no longer sacred (not necessarily in a religious sense) in that is not longer elevated as somethi
Sean Connery is the best James Bond. There have been slicker, more muscular, or more adroit "Bonds" but I think Connery is the "type of man" Flemming envisioned when he created and wrote the character. He was Hefner and Elvis, Churchill and Monty all rolled up into one.
The Beatles are not the greatest rock and roll band of all time. Pivotal? yes. Transitional? yes. Greatest. no. As individuals, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, and Buddy Holly rate higher in my book, esp in their initial years and volume of music they wrote and/or inspired (Holly may very well have eclipsed the empire the
Awards are a valid measure of an actor's talent. What do you mean like in baseball or football, or any other ______ merit based award? As a culture we thrive on merit and awards.
It is acceptable for directors to present altered versions of historical events. It is called "artistic liberty" and something I value. We all do it, we all think, "What if ... " or "I wish I had been there ..." - directors just give the opportunity to view that alternative reality. BTW that doesn't mean we have to agree with it or ev
Political parodies do not influence elections. Now there is an interesting thought, but no. A given parody is going to attract those who want that parody to exist so that they can feel better about themselves and their choices, not to change their minds or feel guilty. That is just wishful thinking an
The concert stage is an appropriate venue to promote political views. If you have the audience ...
Onscreen smoking should not be a factor in MPAA ratings. This is censorship being carried too far.
Music piracy has no effect on the music industry. "piracy", well you mean theft or stealing of copywritten material. A recent study out from Columbia Univ (coincidently enough) shows people are more likely to purchase what they've pirated if they enjoy the song or band. I think by and large people unders
Michael Moore should have taken 9/11 workers to Guantanamo Bay. Yes. A dose of reality always helps to remind people why we should set the positive example for the world to follow and what happens when we don't.
O.J. Simpson's book 'If I Did It' should not be published. Nor should it be bought or read.
The 'Harry Potter' books are not anti-Christian. They are not "pro-Christian" either. They are just stories and whatever relevance they have with any religion or anti-religion is purely circumstantial and most likely only perceived as such because we want there to be. Stories like the "Golden Compass"
It is not acceptable for people to wear fur. Respect life, all forms of life. Sentiments come and go, fads and fashion are fleeting, but as we grow in world population, coming to dominate and eradicate almost everything in our path, it makes sense to save what we have, encourage it's survival and gr
Consumers should have the option to purchase cable TV channels individually. Yes, but I hate TV so I'm not a good source. Funny how radio and TV are viewed so differently.
The government should not withdraw funding for art it considers offensive. What an act as a censor, based on what standard, what offends the next guy in line? nonsense. art should be left to the artist - you don't like it, don't buy it or display it.
It is acceptable for celebrities to sell photos of their children to magazines. I did and I am no celebrity. I won a photo contest. why not? The question is not quite specific enough. If they do it to exploit their children to gain some favor or opinion from it, then they must live with that. Is it moral? no. Is it ethical? no. But
The RIAA should disclose how they track illegal downloads. Yes ... we'll find out eventually anyway, they can run but they can't hide.
Art depicting religious figures in an offensive manner should not be censored. No, art is part of our freedom and right to express ourselves. No one and no thing should be immune to the artists eye. That said, society will always determine what is acceptable and what is not, what is ethical and what is not. The artist has to decide
Oliver Stone's film 'W.' does offer a fair depiction of George W. Bush. Sure it did with candor and humor. Gone are the days when it was "un-American" to criticize his holiness, the Bushaney; gone are the days you feared Bushaney would arrest you on the spot for stating your opinion; gone are the days of fear and hate mongeri
Celebrities who advocate on behalf of social issues have a positive effect on the overall cause. Some I guess, although for the most part they are in it for their rewards and attention. But hey, if it attracts donors and attention for the social issue or charity or cause, more power to em.
