Same-sex marriage is a civil rights issue. Absolutely! There's an entire subset of the population that is less equal than everyone else.
It is not appropriate to talk on the phone while using a public restroom. I love this! Absolutely not! It's not appropriate to talk on the phone in a private bathroom. It's only appropriate for women to talk to each other because of the social aspect for them of lipstick application, etc. for men in restrooms it's "eyes straight forward, no talking".
Racial profiling by both the arresting officer and Henry Louis Gates, Jr. was a factor in Gates' arrest. Racial profiling is a loaded term... each one took the other's race into account.
Carrie Prejean should not be stripped of her Miss California title. People are entitled to opinions.
I have smoked marijuana. Tried it once with help from a friend. Unpleasant experience I don't care to repeat.
I ride motorcycles. Got my motorcycle license years ago... of course, I don't have a bike....
Undocumented immigrants should be granted in-state tuition benefits. Meaning that they should not have to pay out-of-state tuition penalties.
Different genders are not treated equally in the workplace. There are instances of separate treatment in every workplace dominated by one sex or the other... just as there are instances of it in every other situation in which groups of people congregate and one sex predominates.
Affirmative action is necessary. When you evaluate something that is in place to help the population as a whole, examining outliers is not a good measure at best, and purposely misleading at worst. Yes... there have always been black people that got ahead in spite of oppression. I'm not saying affirmative action should put unqualified people in jobs, but where there is a sufficient pool and a company has sufficient spots to fill, then ensuring they are not using unfair factors in their decision-making is important.
There should be no legal drinking age. Only because it should be something that families introduce when they see fit... and not seen as a prize you attain.
President Obama's statement about Henry Louis Gates, Jr.'s arrest was not appropriate. Obama screwed up... and then he said he screwed up. Happens to everyone... except Dick Cheney... it doesn't happen to Dick Cheney.
Political compatibility is not an important component to a romantic relationship. Incompatibility can make for some tense moments, but if you're otherwise happy and not too fanatically political, it shouldn't be a problem.
Religious compatibility is an important component to a romantic relationship. My wife and I are both aheists... THANK GOD!!!
Marijuana is not a gateway drug. I've known people that have done some pot for many years and never moved on to anything more significant. Is beer a "gateway alcohol"? Is "under god" in the pledge a gateway to the horribly repulsive practice of stealing from those that can least afford it known as "tithing"?
Economic downturns lead to increases in crime. ... and economic upturns probably lead to increases in crime also... because the economy is a macro thing and individuals at the micro level are either (a) losing their livelihood, or (b) not keeping up with their neighbors' spending habits.
Jesus Christ was a real-life person. No doubt. It's only because he was a real person that people were able to exaggerate and embellish his life to their own profit and glory.
Child services should not take custody of Nadya Suleman's kids. As a parent, I'm offended by the notion that the state could take children away from their parents without there being a history of crime, violence, abuse, etc. It's a very dangerous suggestion.
Homosexuals should not be allowed to enter the clergy. Seems pretty ridiculous... a gay priest is going to push the line that homosexuality is a sin? Religions/Cults are set up to exclude people "not like me". To the extent they are legal, why should they be forced to allow people "not like me"?
Marijuana should be legal. As legal as alcohol.
The death penalty is an effective crime deterrent. Not sure why I would previously have said it wasn't an effective deterrent... but I'm all for the death penalty for many reasons. What I'm against is when it's used in cases where there remains doubt as to guilt.
There are no persuasive reasons to prohibit same-sex couples from raising children. The only reasons people have are plain bigotry and religious bigotry.
The government should allow same-sex couples to adopt children. Absolutely... there are many children (in particular those that aren't babies anymore) that need loving homes. Rejecting a stable family with the desire and means to raise an adopted child on the basis of the judgment of bigots is unconscionable.
Christianity is in decline. I'd say it's in such decline that it's dying. It's only growing, like tobacco, where people are ignorant and desperate and taken advantage of. In the long term all unjustified beliefs will be looked down upon - if the fundies don't screw everything up fir
Polygamy should be legal. Consenting adults in a free society should not require politicians signing off on the relationships they wish to enter into. When the only people being hurt are the fundies that have to tell others how to live... there are no people being hurt. You fundi
The death penalty should be available in cases of child rape. If we're talking about an adult that is convicted on reliable evidence of forcing intercourse on a "child" (not a 19 year old with a willing 17 year old, mind you) - such as the dudes with the dungeons, then the punishment fits the crime. I'll go a step f
Religious leaders should speak out on political matters. Everyone should speak out on political matters. Should religious leaders be listened to? Absolutely not... their judgment is corrupted by the very confusion or power lust that led them to be "religious leaders" in the first place.
The law should require people to wear seat belts. Except if they've sworn to waive all rights to sue in the event they are injured in an accident. Why aren't right-wingers complaining that not wearing seatbelts is just a way to opportunistically get injured so you can file a lawsuit?
People who view child pornography should not be prosecuted criminally. People that "produce" or "distribute" child pornography should have their genitals fed to rats. But prosecuting people for viewing it is impractical and requires an overly powerful state mechanism to police private activity... no good....
Voting is a right. People should not lose the right to vote. Even if they are ex-convicts... they are back in society and deserve the rights of citizenship.
Election day should be a national holiday. Yes... here's something that will help the dems....
Parents should provide contraceptives to their teenage children. And they should also make sure they have keys to the nookie room!
Death by lethal injection is constitutional. I don't see why it would be unconstitutional in itself. I suppose if you're putting a serial killer to death by injecting two gallons of melted wax that it would be unconstitutional. If the current process is painful, it's just a matter of having another
Scientology is a religion. Scientology was invented by men to unjustly enrich their pockets and their stature at the expense of those unhappy enough with the life they have to desire more. It is exactly like every other religion.
The United States should issue a formal apology for slavery. The damage was so great, so prolonged, and so persistent that an apology is in order.
Acceptance of evolution denies a belief in God. Evolution is a theory that encompasses the full span of the origin of species with the explicit presumption that no supernatural being is, or could be, involved. To then say you believe this "and" that there is a supernatural being that is involved is a c
Prostitution should be legal. Of course it should! Then the only prostitutes would be those that are doing it voluntarily and a behavior that has always existed and will never go away will at least be decriminalized.
Homosexuality is a choice. I know it's not politically correct to say this, but I do think that homosexuality is a choice just as career path is a choice. "Choice" is a bit deceptive because it involves upbringing, experiences, etc. People may feel like they were born to be writer
Breastfeeding in public should be legally protected. I want to re-emphasize my support for this now that my wife flashes everyone the second three-week old Nico begins to make the "feed me" faces....
Homosexuality is not immoral. Why not just ask, "Do you think the supernatural being that created and watches over the universe is listening to your thoughts?"
Drugs should be legalized. Legalization brings control in the same way that it does for alcohol and tobacco. Prohibition was a joke and we've always lived under a drug "prohibition". It's time to try something different that actually has a history of success.
