Political parodies do influence elections. Everything the media does influences elections. Parodies have a lot of impact when they catch on.
Michael Jackson's personal life will tarnish his musical legacy. Which is not to say that it doesn't bring him new fans... just that they'll say, "love that wacko's music"
I enjoy traveling. ... and I miss it.
Onscreen smoking should not be a factor in MPAA ratings. How silly... next thing you know we'll have zealots removing cigarettes from people's mouths on the street so their kids don't see them?
Michael Jackson's death does not merit the media coverage it received. I know I'm going to have to cite my Constitutional right to freedom of speech on this one... please, everyone, tolerance.... I have always hated MJ's music, dancing, guttural noises, and singing in general. He was obviously very talented because everyone says so, but if you ask me if he was talented I would say NOT!
'Reservoir Dogs' is the best Quentin Tarantino directed film. I have to agree with @bFisch on this one. I was really impressed with Reservoir Dogs. I actually saw it for the first and only time at a screening at MoMA where Tarantino and the Weinsteins talked about their relationship, the film, how they became successful, etc.... very, very cool!
'Iron Man' was the best superhero movie of 2008. Iron Man was awesome
The Beatles are the greatest rock and roll band of all time. You can argue over what adjective to use to describe them, but the Beatles transformed the music industry and have achieved the status of immortals for their entire body of work - still relevant today.
Art depicting religious figures in an offensive manner should not be censored. I once thought it should be. Then a friend suggested I should also agree with the government telling libraries which books they couldn't have... and I changed my mind.
The 'Harry Potter' books are not anti-Christian. I don't think they were meant to be that way. There have been fictional stories throughout the ages on a par with the fictional stories that Christians elevate to absolute truths. Nothing in reality or most of fiction squares with Christianity, because it
Celebrities who advocate on behalf of social issues have a positive effect on the overall cause. There are various degrees of this. Jerry Lewis had a huge impact, but if some starlet wants to be associated with the charity du jour... big deal.
The Internet is having the greatest impact on broadcast television's ratings. I think it's the Internet that is changing this industry. Ratings are based on a select group of households that are monitored - a terrible way to do this considering that most people get their programming through a wire - I don't understand why the cable
Tickets to Broadway shows are fairly priced. Considering the number of people that have to make a living from a Broadway show, I think they're reasonable.
"Noise" should not be recognized as a music genre. Neither is "stick with ball" to be considered a work of art. Atop the list of things I'd change in the world is to force the distinctions between "art" and "craft"... between "music" and "noise"... and, in general, discrediting all the untalented charlata
It is not acceptable for celebrities to sell photos of their children to magazines. They should be protecting their children, not exposing them.
It is acceptable for people to wear fur. Fur... leather... eat meat. We kill animals for our own consumption. Is the argument against fur really better than the argument against leather? If it is, then the anti-fur people haven't gotten their message across to me. I know they say the animals suf
Minimum weight restrictions should not be placed on models. Why not just place weight restrictions on people in general? Who would place such restrictions? Who would enforce them? I suppose if they are boxing each other then weight restrictions make sense....
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should not include artists outside the rock genre. Only if they rename it to, "The Music Hall of Fame."
Record labels will become obsolete. It's possible. The production of physical media is no longer monopolized and not even necessary. Are they just power-brokers now... ?
Printed books will become obsolete. Eventually, when there is a single sheet of "paper" that electronically displays, with the same quality and reliability of a printed page, dynamic and downloadable content... yes, printed books will become anachronisms. I give it fifty years to get there.
DJs are not musicians. A DJ is to a musician as a an announcer is to a boxing match.
"Dreamgirls" should not have been nominated for best picture. I remember thinking that Eddie Murphy was brilliant... but Best Picture?
The government should not withdraw funding for art it considers offensive. I love this issue... I changed my mind about this years ago when somebody pointed out that if you think the government should choose what art is appropriate for funding, you also think the government should choose what books are appropriate for inclusion
Critics' reviews are a reliable guide to a movie's quality. Of course you have to find a critic that you agree with. Some just don't strike the right chord.
Celebrities are not obligated to behave as role models. Obligated is a strong word... they will be role models regardless because people will pay attention to what they do, but if they want to be assholes... who's to stop them? I confess that I was very disappointed when Tiger woods dropped out of college.
Art should be defined. Absolutely... we should distinguish between "art" and "craft". Those abstract sticks of different colors... those are "crafts". There is nothing inspired or inspirational about them.
Music piracy has a negative effect on the music industry.
The concert stage is an appropriate venue to promote political views.
Awards are a valid measure of a musician's work.
