Opinions
Saturday Night Live's depiction of David Paterson is not appropriate. Of course politicians are fair game, but handicapped people generally aren't. See the difference? Was it funny? Yes. Appropriate? No.
Pre-release album leaks have a positive impact on sales. Generally I think the buzz outweighs the rip-offs.
Robert Downey Jr. should be Entertainment Weekly's 2008 Entertainer of the Year. The only reason I saw (and enjoyed) Iron Man. He makes everything he appears in worthwhile.
The movie 'Juno' does not glorify teenage pregnancy. It glorifies women who are insanely desperate to have children.
The Beatles are not the greatest rock and roll band of all time. Most influential, maybe.
Spoilers have a negative impact on the film and television viewing experience. I love surprises!
The July 2008 issue of Italian Vogue will not prompt American publications to feature more black models. It's going to take more than this to induce American magazine editors to break out of their tight, fearful, little fashion-mafia worlds.
A small budget makes for a better horror film. The less glitz, the better.
Theaters should allow parents to bring their babies into movies. But if babies cry loudly and consistently, they must be taken outside. Or patrons should get their money back.
The WGA strike had a positive effect on the television industry.
"Noise" should be recognized as a music genre. Once upon a time rock 'n roll wasn't considered music by some.
"In the Heights" will win the Tony Award for Best Musical. I'd love "Passing Strange" to win, but "In the Heights" is more traditional, thus more likely.
"August: Osage County" will win the Tony Award for Best Play.
Jimmy Fallon is a good replacement for Conan O'Brien on 'Late Night'. It should be interesting, at least. Let's give the guy a chance before we tear into him like a pack of mad dogs.
Cosmetic procedures have a positive impact on an actor's career. I don't think anyone can argue that pretty and/or young-looking people get hired more. I can't think of any actor (or anyone in the limelight) who hasn't had some procedure done.
Awards are not a valid measure of an actor's talent.
It is acceptable for celebrities to sell photos of their children to magazines. ...as long as they give all of it to charity.
Consumers should not have the option to purchase cable TV channels individually. I might change my mind about this, but I fear that many smaller, worthwhile niche channels would get dropped by cable companies if this were to happen...
It is not acceptable for people to wear fur. Not when there are so many other options for keeping warm.
Screenwriters should be present on the movie set.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should include artists outside the rock genre. As long as they have helped inspire or have contributed to what is commonly referred to as "rock."
The music industry should not curtail the use of violent or offensive lyrics.
Celebrities who advocate on behalf of social issues have a positive effect on the overall cause.
Reality television has a negative effect on society.
Theaters should not ban onstage smoking.
Amy Ryan (“Gone Baby Gone”) will win the Oscar for best performance by an actress in a supporting role. I'm going with Ryan because it was such a break-out performance (and the Academy loves that), but I could see it going to Ruby Dee (a veteran and a strong performance). Any other year, it would have been Blanchett, who was AMAZING.
The Writers Guild of America strike was worth it.
Funding not provided by major studios makes a film "independent."
Record labels will become obsolete. I think it's only a matter of time...
Julie Christie (“Away from Her”) will win the Oscar for best performance by an actress in a leading role.
Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men”) will win the Oscar for best performance by an actor in a supporting role.
Daniel Day-Lewis (“There Will Be Blood”) will win the Oscar for best performance by an actor in a leading role. Clooney was terrific as Clayton and Depp was phenomenal as Todd but here's no beating DDL at the top of his game.
“Juno” (Diablo Cody) will win the Oscar for best original screenplay. Probably "Juno" unless the Academy has something against strippers-turned-screenwriters. Wouldn't mind seeing Tamara Jenkins get it, though, for her killer script.
“Ratatouille” will win the Oscar for best animated feature film. Who doesn't love a rodent with kitchen skills and a dream?
Talk shows should resume broadcasting only if there's an agreement with the writers' guild.
Umbrella (Rihanna Featuring Jay-Z) song should win the 2008 Grammy for Record of the Year.
Back to Black (Amy Winehouse) should win the 2008 Grammy for Album of the Year.
Umbrella (Rihanna Featuring Jay-Z) should win the 2008 Grammy for Song of the Year.
Amy Winehouse should win the 2008 Grammy for Best New Artist.
Commercialization has a negative effect on film festivals.
