Roman Polanski should be extradited to the U.S. I almost feel as though the victim's wishes should be honored over the court's, but a crime is a crime, and throwing money at it shouldn't be enough to make it go away.
I do not enjoy cooking.
The Pledge of Allegiance should not include the phrase "under God" for other reasons.
The Texas government should not have removed the children from their families at the polygamist ranch.
Schools should not teach Intelligent Design as a scientific theory. Intelligent design can be taught, (if at all) in a religious class, philosophy, history, but not science. Otherwise, it should be taught in the home.
I do not believe in soulmates. It's too great a stretch of the imagination to believe that there is one person out there for everyone. This concept destroys relationships, as people marry who they believe to be a soulmate, only to later doubt that they are with the "right" person. Instead of investing in the relationship, they abandon it, in search of the elusive soulmate who would would be perfect in every way. That having been said, I believe in people who grow together so perfectly that they become soulmates by the refining fire of a loving relationship.
Monogamy is natural.
Parents should not have the right to refuse medical care for their children due to religious beliefs. I hate to forcibly go against one's religion, but in a matter of life or death, it's the right thing to do.
I keep a personal journal.
It is not appropriate to talk on the phone while using a public restroom.
I attend religious services weekly.
I do not buy lottery tickets.
Employers should not block personal e-mail access on company computers. Taking away privileges has never made people more productive at work. Enhancing the work environment does.
There are persuasive reasons to prohibit interfaith marriages. Assuming by "prohibit" it's meant that one makes a personal choice to abstain from marrying outside the faith. Sure. Marriage can be tough, and religious discord only makes it tougher. There's no persuasive reason for anyone to "prohibit" any marriage of two other consenting adults.
There is convincing evidence that a higher being exists. The evidence isn't scientific, and not particularly explicable, but I'm convinced by it nonetheless. I certainly sympathize with atheists though, that it is a stretch of the imagination too great to believe in a higher power.
I have smoked marijuana.
I ride motorcycles.
Pride is the worst of the seven deadly sins. The way C.S. Lewis presents it is pretty compelling, so I'll agree.
Racial profiling by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. was a factor in his arrest.
The arrest of Henry Louis Gates, Jr. was not justified. Legal maybe, but probably not justified. I think Mr. Gates overreacted based on some assumptions of his own and the officer overreacted in turn.
Marriage should not be defined as a union between one man and one woman. The definition of marriage is: to join closely or intimately; unite. Marriage is also used as any combination of two "things" that compliment each other. Like the marriage of peanut butter and chocolate in a Reese's peanut butter cup. The word marriage is a simple word of utility in the English language, and doesn't even have to do implicitly with humans.
Feminism is relevant.
President Obama's statement about Henry Louis Gates, Jr.'s arrest was not appropriate. I'm sure he thought he needed to address, and possibly help diffuse a racially charged situation, but I disagree with him in part on this subject and distracted from the reason he was speaking.
Dogs are better pets than cats. I love both, but I vote dogs.
Racial discrimination is still a significant problem in America. Certainly nothing like it used to be, and not nearly as bad as it currently is in some parts of the world, but we're certainly not the least racially discriminant nation. Racism has also become a crutch and perceived racism where it does not exist is rampant. I'd say that constitutes a significant problem.
Public displays of religious content should be permitted so long as they are not overly intrusive.
Economic downturns lead to increases in crime. Afraid so.
References to God or religion should not be left out of U.S. Presidential Inaugurations. I can't decide. Back when religion in America had a good name for itself, it seemed like a nice sentiment regardless of religious affiliation. Now it just seems akward and a reminder of how intolerant a nation we still are.
The 'War on Drugs' has been effective in curbing illegal drug use. I believe it has helped, though it was not won.
Carrie Prejean should be stripped of her Miss California title. She failed to fulfill her contractual obligations.
The law should require people to wear seat belts. I almost would say no, except that accidents involving death and dismemberment due to seatbelt neglect cause more danger, damage, and cost to the state. It's not just a personal choice that affects no one.
Religious compatibility is an important component to a romantic relationship.
It is healthy for couples to remain friends after being in a long-term relationship. It can be, and shows sure signs of maturity, but that doesn't mean you SHOULD remain friends. Do it if you both want to, and can, but I wouldn't force it just to show how mature you are.
Political compatibility is an important component to a romantic relationship. Although the level of importance is directly related to the level of political interest of both parties.
Dating sites are an effective way to find love. Love is a verb. But I get what this is asking.
Scientists should experiment on animals.
Drugs should be legalized. I know no one wants to hear about how well Amsterdam is doing...but look at how well Amsterdam is doing.
People who hit their significant others once are likely to do so again. What a world.
Marijuana should be legal. Marijuana is less intoxicating than alcohol, less addictive than cigarettes, and has a lower mortality rate than either. MUCH lower. If opposition of Marijuana could look past the scary stigma of illegality and measure effects unbiasedly, they would see
Homosexuality is not immoral. In the Bible, there are only 3 admonitions to homosexuals yet 1847 admonitions to heterosexuals. Heterosexuals aren't wrong, they just need more help.
