They are all corporate-owned and government-policed. That means there is very little free speech left, and the broadcasters are reduced to little more than puppets. Freedom of the press, and free speech are slowly being killed.
It depends on the source. Some blogs were never meant to be news sources, but rather more like an opinion/editorial. They can be informative, but like any "news" source, you have to approach it with a certain degree of healthy skepticism. Ditto for the mainstream.
On Fox, at any rate, which doesn't say much. I have less and less trust in the mainstream media lately. Glenn Beck is a good start, inasmuch as he does try to do his part to reveal the truth about what's really going on in this country. Unfortunately, he doesn't have the guts to stand up to those who bully him into either retracting some of his previous statements, or stop him from revealing certain facts about certain individuals or corporations.
If they want him to, then what's the big deal?
"Erotic services" is a lightly disguised euphemism for prostitution. Do you really believe that guy ONLY wanted a massage? Get real!
I don't use Craigslist much. But there are certain services you just don't offer in a classified - particularly that kind of service in someone's motel room. But pizza delivery boys have been robbed too, does that mean we should ban pizza delivery?
Google has enough already, they need to stop trying to pull a Microsoft and monopolize the internet.
MSNBC is politically biased. Whichever side is most in line with the interests of big business, big money, and corporate ownership of media outlets is the side MSNBC will take. Being a joint venture between NBC's owners and Microsoft, they're going to want to make sure they present the view most favorable to big business.
Online news should be free. Online news providers can get funding the same way TV stations do: through advertising revenue. Nobody is going to pay to hear news that would be free to hear on TV.
Non-profit funding is a viable way to sustain news organizations. PBS has been doing it for years.
Monkey-see, monkey-do. That is what the cartoon was meant to imply; that Obama is simply following the Democratic agenda to the letter, under the watchful eye of his "trainer" Joe Biden (whom, I think, is going to be as much the "power behind the throne"
News is supposed to inform. If those presenting it choose to do so in an entertaining fashion, that's fine, but it's meant primarily to tell us what's going on in the world.
NBC's coverage of the 2008 Olympic Games was satisfactory.
I read blogs that are on web sites, using a web browser.
Leave well enough alone already!
This would be especially good for the teenagers who may have unknowingly picked up a stalker. It would be an extra tool to protect the teens before tragedy strikes.
Both were clearly enjoying that pose, and the "chronically offended" crowd needs to get a life, get a hobby, and stop looking for racism that isn't there.
NBC should not have rejected PETA's Super Bowl advertisement. The "chronically offended" crowd strikes again. Lighten up a bit and get a life, please!
For-profit media has a negative impact on journalism. Journalists whose salaries depend on appeasing the advertisers who fund their newspapers or TV stations don't dare report the facts that might make said companies look bad. The truth gets lost.
Do you have any idea how easy it is for kids to figure out (and change) the settings? Or for that matter, how difficult it is for parents to figure out how to set it in the first place?
Why? Because of a scarf that people with too much time on their hands decided to misinterpret and become offended about? I'm sick of the chronically offended ruling the airwaves.
Newspapers should be publicly financed. Why not? PBS has been publicly financed since its inception, and I think the news from a publicly financed paper would be a bit more reliable (at least less slanted towards the interests of the corporations that either sponsor or outright own them).
The Wall Street Journal has the best daily financial coverage. I don't think there's much of a difference though.
Crowdfunding is a viable way to fund reporting. PBS has been doing it for decades, and it works pretty well for them.
It is ethical for journalism to be financed by crowdfunding. In some ways, I like it. It's one way to help ensure that the news isn't biased (the way mainstream news is now). I think it's a better alternative than funding via corporate sponsorship, because when journalists are dependent on corporate money to keep t
YouTube merits a higher valuation than Hulu. I've never heard of Hulu.
The FCC should be dismantled. It no longer serves any real purpose. It's now just another tax-wasting bureaucracy.
American news media coverage of the Gaza Crisis has favored Palestine. I am amazed at how many people are adamant that the Israelis are the aggressors and oppressors - that makes absolutely no sense at all. All of the surrounding nations hate Israel (some more than others), and while not all of them are attacking them, none
All of our major media outlets are owned by 6 big corporations. I'm not just talking about the United States, I'm talking worldwide. This is dangerous because that means the world's biggest corporations now have direct say regarding what information gets
The government should not provide financial assistance to the print journalism industry. I'm actually on the fence here because with government money comes government control. With increased government control, our free press becomes less and less free, until it resembles the Ministry of Information from the book 1984. The implications here a
National Public Radio (NPR) is politically biased. Of course they are, as all media outlets are. The New York Times is well-known as the "establishment Left," and NPR is perhaps the "establishment Right." How could it be otherwise when NPR stations are broadcasting shows with talking heads like Rush Limba
Social networking sites have no effect on one's ability to make connections in person. Very little. More and more these days, people's primary "connections" are online, and very rarely do they result in a personal meeting. I'm not saying it can't happen, or that it hasn't, but I am saying the effect is negligible. They're nice for exchangin
MySpace merits a higher valuation than Facebook. It's more popular, from what I understand, so if you're an advertiser, that's the place to go.
If they want to. They have that legal right.
The FCC should not strengthen indecency rules regarding broadcast television. Censorship has already gone too far, the FCC needs to just stop where they are.
States should not charge sales tax for online purchases. Interstate commerce is regulated by the federal government. If a Nevada resident buys merchandise from Georgia, neither state should have the authority to charge sales tax because it is an interstate transaction. Because it's within the United States, how
The media does have a social responsibility to promote positive body images. To a point, yes. Although it's no healthier to be too fat than it is to be too skinny, I think if fat people were portrayed with the kind of beauty that skinny people are portrayed with, teenage girls may eventually get the hint and stop starving themselv
The Attorney General should not have the authority to bring civil lawsuits against alleged file-sharers. Only those who are directly affected by the file-sharing should be allowed to file suit against them.
The FCC should allow white spaces for wireless high-speed Internet access. Competition is vital to ensure that the companies that provide these services have an incentive to provide the best quality and the best value. Internet access is no exception to this rule. By allowing white spaces, people will have a choice as to how the
