The Internet has had a positive effect on journalism. I think it's opened the floodgates to information, and that always can be empowering, especially if you are marginalised, live a rural place with limited local intel, the ubiquity of information at all hours is a great thing.
I do feel secure using Craigslist for transactions. I once had a botanist come over and show me how to cultivate indoor moss, and in return I made him dinner (I'm classically trained). It's also good for selling IKEA shizz.
Craigslist should not remove its 'Erotic Services' listings. There's obviously a demand for these services, and if craigslist stops somebody else will pick up where CL left off.
The Pulitzer Prizes are still relevant. Hell yes, we all desire to be recognised for our work. That's human, it's what motivates us. And the P draws attention to some of the great work you may have missed. It's still vital!
National evening news broadcasts should expand to an hour-long format. PBS already does it well. BTW, someone please tell that fuddy-duddy Gibson to stop with that idiotic sign off, "I hope you had a good day." 30 mins of horrible news and you hope I had a nice day!? Really!?
Jon Stewart's criticism of CNBC was appropriate. Yes. Absolutely. Satire is a sophisticated form of criticism, going a step further and giving Cramer a public thrashing is priceless.
Jon Stewart's criticism of CNBC will affect the way business news is covered. I think so in some regards. I think exposing Cramer for the scam artist he and his ilk have always been can open people's eyes.
It is appropriate for the President of the United States to make appearances on late night talk shows. There are multiple ways the same message needs to be communicated. He's genius for using every platform at his disposal and knowing how to do it well.
Ross Douthat is not a good replacement for William Kristol at the New York Times. GREAT, yet again, ANOTHER white son of privilege. He exemplifies the irrelevance of the out of touch and flawed elite that constitutes the conservative voice.
Twitter does not promote narcissism. It erodes your happiness in life. I don't twitter; I don't want or care to tell people of my every move. I prefer some mystery to life.
Google should not attempt to acquire Twitter. who cares.
Newspaper organizations are necessary to maintain journalistic standards. As of now, journalism is a powerful industry and institution with no regulation of credentials. I think journalists should be licensed and take an exam demonstrating critical thinking ability.
The New York Post's chimpanzee cartoon is racist. The analogy of the dead chimp as Obama can be tenably inferred, so, that alone makes it creepy and in poor taste, if not racist. And yeah, the 2 white cops adds to the gross factor.
NBC should have rejected PETA's Super Bowl advertisement. How ELSE would PETA have gotten so much attention showing a pack of girls jiggling around with bunch of vegetables? BRAVO PETA!
American news media coverage of the Gaza Crisis has been fair. For American news, which has always been censored and sanitized, it's not been any different than the usual neutered narratives that are served up by the likes of Gibson and Couric.
The FCC should not be dismantled. They should evolve. Regulation of media is still needed on both a technical and commercial level.
States should not charge sales tax for online purchases.
The government should not provide financial assistance to the print journalism industry. Hell to the N to the O. The dinosaurs need to develop a profitable online business model. Why print when you can have Kindle?
David Gregory is not a good choice to host Meet the Press. Russert dominated the show because of his trademark zeal. Gregory doesn't really have a telegenic presence. Rachel Maddow would have been a near perfect replacement.
YouTube merits a higher valuation than Hulu. It's an Alley-Cat Tech fight, and when you go up against Google, you gonna get jacked up, a chunk of ear bit off, missing some whiskers and you'll lose the swagger that gives you street cred. Hulu can't compete in value.
Social networking sites have a positive effect on one's ability to make connections in person. The GLBT has been using networking sites for years--they are the life blood that has brought us together, especially in the provinces where we're still threatened. It's great way to get to know someone before meeting them in person.
National Public Radio (NPR) is not politically biased. Why is it that if someone is NOT a conservative they're 'bias' ? Give me a break! NPR skews their programming to those with a brain, I guess they must be bias.
MSNBC is politically biased. They are intellectually curious, with progressive standards. Despite this bias, they still give people like Sarah Palin FAR more attention than what she actually merits.
The FCC should allow white spaces for wireless high-speed Internet access. This is innovation being thwarted to protect the current vested interest$ of traditional media. This would revolutionize the process of obtaining unfiltered media. I have yet to be convinced of the "devastation" it would cause.
Facebook merits a higher valuation than MySpace. MySpace is soooo ghetto, hood-rat.
Les blogs ont un effet positif sur la politique. opens up the covers and lets out the real stink.
Fox News is not "fair and balanced." Are you kidding me!? Can you say Republican Operative Network? Right wing whack-jobs extraordinaire.
L'utilisation de l'Internet a eu un effet sur la langue anglaise. My English has taken a beating, for certain. The Internet demands an expediency that sometimes comes at a cost to proper spelling, usage, etc...
The media does not have a social responsibility to promote positive body images. The media's job is to sell mythology not reality. Showing a "real" dumpy, blubbery girl is equally damaging as glorifying the bag-of-bones we're accustomed to watching. WE the people have to empower our own bodies and not rely on what the media says and
Print newspapers will become obsolete. eventually.
Les paparazzi ne devraient pas être obligés d’obtenir la permission des personnes qu’ils photographient. I'm sick of celebrities whining when their livelihoods are dependent on the pap keeping them relevant between projects.
The Vogue cover featuring LeBron James and Gisele Bundchen is not appropriate. I can understand the sentiments of those in the African American community who are offended by what they view as a stereotype.
Michelle Obama dresses better than Cindy McCain. Michelle's style is her own and amplifies her intellect, creativity and that very real je ne sais quoi about her. Cindy is a "label" and has to be dressed by stylists b/c she is not interesting enough.
Bloggers should be allowed to blog anonymously. A nom de web is fine.
The New Yorker cover featuring Barack and Michelle Obama is not effective satire. The technique of satire is to draw out the subtle and render it visible by comparative critique to the standard, not to draw attention to the buffanoory and idiocy of something that's already self-evident.
The Wall Street Journal should move to a free online model. If you want to be considered a paper of public record, you might want to make it accessible to the public for F-R-E-E. Just a thought. seriously.
Tim Russert's death did not merit the media coverage it received. I have faithfully watched Russert every week and will greatly miss his work, but my God, you would have thought Princess Diana had risen from the dead and died again with all the endless news coverage, given the floods in Iowa, the economy and other impor
The media is politically biased, but both sides balance one another out.
The U.S. should enact the Free Flow of Information Act.
Dunkin' Donuts should not have pulled the ad featuring Rachel Ray. I think Moby's opinion said it best regarding this issue.
