Same-sex marriage is a civil rights issue. Indeed, it's THE civil rights issue of our generation. Our grandchildren will scratch their heads when they read in history books about gays not being able to marry...the way we did when we read that blacks were once not allowed to eat in the same restaurants as whites.
The arrest of Henry Louis Gates, Jr. was not justified. Goodness no. Disrespecting a police officer's mother isn't a crime.
President Obama's statement about Henry Louis Gates, Jr.'s arrest was not appropriate. His comments came at a press conference to promote health care reform and it was a huge distraction from his intended objective. The lengthy comments threw fuel on a fire that was burning enough on its own. It may have been appropriate for him to comment on this in some form but this was not with the pragmatic and careful language that we've gotten used to. And admitting he "didn't know all the facts" and was "biased" for knowing Gates personally wasn't an exoneration. If anything it should have disqualified him from making a comment at that time.
Dogs are better pets than cats. I'm a cat owner now while living in NYC but I grew up with dogs and can say that cats, while convenient, aren't nearly as rewarding.
Monogamy is natural. Like a lot of evolutionary traits that humans adapted in order to get to the top of the food chain, monogamy was probably at one time counterproductive to survival. Instinctual temptations today suggest it still might be but it's not. It's just part of a the struggle that takes place in an ever-progressing species.

Marijuana is not a gateway drug. Efforts to brand marijuana as a gateway drug is ironically misleading. If the ENTIRE sample size of marijuana users was measured - not just the fraction that ends up in crack dens - a wholly different perspective of the drug's effects would at least be weighed. Instead, marijuana is a scapegoat for the behavior of people who are just as likely to "cross over" when they take their first drag from a cigarette...or first sip from a beer. What's ironic about it all is that this agenda is pushed by the same people who advocate personal accountability and responsibility when talking up their economic philosophy and throwing tea parties.
Faith-based organizations should not pay taxes. For the same reason I think the fabulously wealthy would suddenly become a lot less charitable if their taxes were reduced dramatically, I'd be concerned about this kind of initiative having a negative effect on the charities that are supported by faith-based orgs.
Dating sites are not an effective way to find love. I know several people who have used/are using dating sites and who have given it an honest effort in their pursuit of love. They browse people and find compatible matches, set the dates up, and even give it a fair shot. In the end, it's fleeting. Not one long-term relationship has come from it. Is it possible to find love on these site? Without question - there's enough testimonials out there to prove that. But as an overall "strategy" for finding someone, it's extremely flawed. (And I'd be interested to see the proportion of users who are in relationships deemed successful vs. everyone else. Me thinks it's very tiny.
