The U.S. should decrease the military defense budget. we already spend more than half of what the rest of the world combined spends on defense. the money we already spend should be reallocated to intelligence gathering and policing, rather than on more weapons of mass destruction.
The U.S should try to prevent nuclear proliferation in other nations. however, we might serve the entire world better by leading by example and reducing our enormous stockpile of weapons of mass destruction
Based on the information available at the time of the invasion of Iraq, it was not justified. the plans to invade iraq were on bush's desk his second day in office. all he and cheney needed was an excuse, and they found it sept. 11, 2001. sacrificing 3,000 people to achieve their goals was perfectly acceptable to them.
Guantanamo Bay detainees should be moved to U.S. prisons. absolutely. there is no reason why they can't be kept in our maximum security prisons. this fear that they will somehow escape and be a threat to the public is unfounded.
I support President Obama's message to the Muslim world. The issues we have with the Muslim world are many, complex, and explosive (figuratively and literally). I feel the President handled them deftly, while he set a new course for an open exchange of ideas. Our "boot up your ass" policy toward the Muslim world over the last 8 years has done immeasurable harm to this nation's standing in the entire world. It is our ideals, and living up to those ideals, not our military might, that will win the battle we face with radical Islam as they, their ideology, and their tactics will ultimately get pushed further further toward the fringe and isolated by the entire Muslim world.
'Waterboarding' should be characterized as torture. it is absolutely sad and deplorable that we even have to question this!!
The U.S. invasion and occupation has had a negative effect on Iraq. BUT THEN, WE WERE NEVER REALLY THERE TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF THE PEOPLE OF IRAQ. WE WENT IN FOR OIL (AND NO-BID CONTRACTS FOR CHENEY'S FRIENDS), PLAINLY AND SIMPLY.
The U.S. should have diplomatic relations with Cuba. We need to improve our relationship with all the countries in this hemisphere.
Sonia Sotomayor is a good choice to replace Justice Souter. Mr. Tancredo, Your statement is laughable.
