The running mate will be someone who makes McCain look good by comparison. Because he's a canny pol, Mac, and intends to win. Here's a theory. Losers usually make the mistake of picking someone who appears more solid and dependable. Dukakis and Bentsen. Ford and Dole. Nixon and Lodge. Cox and--Roosevelt! But winners, or people who intend to win, pick a blatherskyte or lightweight. Bush and Quayle. Bush and Cheney! Nixon and Agnew! FDR and Garner, Wallace, Truman. LBJ and Humphrey, for crying out loud! (Okay, Mondale/Ferraro may be an exception. Obama and Biden? Let's table that.)

damn good choice for McCain if the rumors are true. He didn't piss off his base by picking an abortion rights guy. Pawlenty is real well-liked, charismatic, great speaker, young. Touche on the Biden pick

@JZipp - every time I think of McCain, I hear his voice echoing "That's not change we can believe in!", in that silly tone and I just crack up.

But then again, McCain is really senile right now. No offense to the elders out there, but this guy is aging in dog years during the campaign. I truly feel sorry for him.

I think they may have taken it out of context, because if you read it carefully, it sounds like he was talking about the convention, which is in Minnesota, Pawlenty's state. He said "you're going to like Pawlenty," because he also praised Romney (heh) and Giuliani. It seems like it's down to Romney and Pawlenty. Man, Biden would eat those two alive in a debate.

Not so fast... CNN took that story down. Wonder if McCain was like: "Dang, CNN... let me announce it first... that's not change we can believe in!"
