We have too many more important issues at this time. Besides, private industry could do it cheaper and better than our government.

Not at the expense of life on this earth. Until we achieve some balance and moderation here on our planet, space exploration (or exploitation) must wait.

As it is, the space program expenditures are a tiny fraction of the GNP. More money is wasted on corporate welfare. I think we should invest more in both the space program and basic science.
