Congress should not pass a 'cap and trade' bill. What...you think COMPANIES will pay this? Wait til you get your utility bill! This is a regressive tax that'll hurt those who can't afford it most. And it'll push even more jobs to China.
Global warming is not a problem primarily caused by humans because the Earth's climate has not been affected by humans. Per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenhouse_gas, CO2 is only 9-26% of GHG (most is water vapor). Man contributes less than 5% of C02, a max of 1% of total GHG. Do the math...
Recycling is the most environmentally friendly way to dispose of used tires. The alternatives impinge on our lifestyle or create a safety hazard. New recycling techniques have become cost-effective, thanks in part to rising commodity prices.
The cap and trade system would be more effective at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Actually, cap and trade AND a carbon tax are BOTH counter-productive. They increase US energy costs, thereby driving manufacturers to China & India to get cheap, GHG-producing electricity. Dumb!
Global warming is a problem that humans must take actions to address. But India and China will render Obama's plan worse than ineffectual. Carbon sequestration schemes are the ONLY solutions that have any potential for impact.
The U.S. should not have signed the Kyoto Treaty. Clinton was correct in declining to submit the Protocol for ratification. It exempts both China and India which have the fastest growing GHG emissions on the planet. Time for Plan B...
Governments should not create mandatory recycling programs. In my CA community, all trash is mixed and then sorted by hand and machine, resulting in more reclamation than household sorting at a comparable price. How sensible...
Plastic grocery bags should not be banned. Yet another knee-jerk, irrational stance by tree-huggers. I feel SOOOO special. I'm probably the only person in the US who favors choice when it comes to both childbirth AND grocery bags.
Congress should lift the ban on offshore oil drilling. The technological reasons for the ban's implementation are gone and it's continued solely to placate greenies and rich Californians with ocean views. Let's get ready...$4/gallon will be back, folks.
Reducing meat consumption is an effective way to combat global warming. Fact: cows emit as much greenhouse gas as cars. To the extent that you buy into the notion that global warming is caused by GHG, cutting beef consumption beats hybrids by a mile.
The benefits of recycling do not outweigh the costs. Most waste is not recycled because it's not cost-effective to do so. But if it makes you feel like you're saving the planet, be my guest...rinse out your toilet paper for re-use.
The U.S. should allow drilling in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). If the environmentalists who oppose this want to demonstrate their sincerity, let 'em all sign a pledge swearing off any consumption of home heating oil and gasoline. Then we won't need ANWR!
It is inconclusive to say there is a link between global warming and the rising intensity of natural disasters. The global warming alarmists would love for it to be so but there's absolutely no peer-reviewed evidence to conclude that that's the case. Chill, Chicken Little...
Buying a used conventional engine car is more environmentally friendly than buying a new hybrid. OK, your friends might not recognize you as a planet-saving hero but recycling can be both both cheaper AND more green than the latest trendy hybrid. Has to do with used vs. new.
Global warming cannot be stopped. The Martians have been unsuccessful in halting the unprecedented melting of the ice cap on Mars. What makes us think we're going to be able to do any better here on earth?
The U.S. government should not increase the national gas mileage standard. If you pay for the Iraq war by increasing the gas tax (imminently sensible, don'tcha think?), the cost of gas will rise enough that consumer tastes will drive the increase in MPG.
The federal government should not release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. Whoa, sorry you don't have the cash to top off the tank on your nine ton SUV, dude. But helping you save for that new Blackberry just isn't, uh, "strategic", OK?
The U.S. government should not provide incentives for manufacturers to build fuel-efficient cars. What got drivers off their love affair with SUVs? $4.00 gas! If we use taxes to keep the price that high, the marketplace will move people into fuel efficient cars and the govt. will MAKE money.
Climate change will have a positive effect on the economy. Environmentalists would have you believe that climate change will be all bad. Not true. There will be both negative AND positive effects. C'mon...let's be honest here.
