Print newspapers will become obsolete. Print newspapers ARE obsolete; the rigor mortis just hasn't set in yet. Once wifi and Blackberries/iPhones are truly ubiquitous, the only justification for newsprint will be under the bird cage.
Katie Couric is the evening network news anchor I trust most. I watch Katie...my wife likes to keep tabs on her hair style. But I don't put a great deal of trust in any of the "talking heads". Network news generally provides little in the way of perspective.
Twitter is not a fad. Twitter's not so much a fad as it is a testimony to today's narcissistic, self-absorbed and vainglorious attitudes. Twitter won't die 'til users get a clue that no one cares when they take a dump.
The newspaper industry should not receive a limited exemption from antitrust laws. What...life support for yet another loser at public expense? Darwin, please explain to these folks about survival of the fittest! Papers will (and should) die but news reportage won't.
The media is politically biased, but both sides balance one another out. I've never seen any proof that either the number of writers/performers or the audiences they draw are dominated by either side.
Social networking web sites are not a fad. Humans are social animals. The internet is a communication medium. Ergo...
President Obama's Tonight Show appearance will have a positive effect on him politically. Unlike Bush, who routinely put his foot in his mouth in public, Obama's charisma serves him well. Today the biggest fear is truly fear itself and Obama's frequent public appearances build confidence.
CNBC is a credible financial news network. Despite huge lost opportunities for promoting understanding of complex issues, CNBC does a reasonable of presenting financial news. Loved Santelli's rebuke of Obama's foreclosure program!
Twitter does not promote narcissism. Twitter might capitalize on narcissism and make its presence more apparent but suggesting that it promotes it is giving this dumb site entirely too much credit.
Google should not attempt to acquire Twitter. Rather than buying every inane social website after it goes ballistic, Google should develop an integrated platform with internally developed components...better mkt. strategy, more cost-effective.
Online news should be free. Currently, online news sites receive revenue from advertising just like commercial radio/TV, newspapers and all other news sources except public radio/TV. What's the problem?
Newspaper organizations are not necessary to maintain journalistic standards. What good are journalistic standards if employed only in a medium (newspapers) that the public no longer reads? The decline in newspapers isn't due only to ad revenue. Readership's declined for years.
The New York Post's chimpanzee cartoon is not racist. Are these the same PC extremists who accuse you of racism when you put only salt but no pepper on your food? C'mon, folks...aren't there enough REAL issues to deal with??? Jeez!
Newspapers should not be publicly financed. Public financing would imply newspapers run by the same reliable sources who told us about the WMDs in Iraq, right? Doesn't everyone already have access to "The Onion"?
American news media coverage of the Gaza Crisis has been fair. Closed-minded? Just find the news source that tells you what you want to hear. There are instances of bias for and against both sides among the various news agencies but that answer wasn't allowed.
States should charge sales tax for online purchases. Since fewer po folk shop online, the rich benefit most & as tax revenues become depleted, local govts. must increase rates or create new taxes. But the change'll be unpopular AND tough to enforce!
National Public Radio (NPR) is politically biased. But they're no more biased than Rush Limbaugh. As a liberal, you may like finally hearing a sympathetic radio opinion but please...don't delude yourself into believing that they're objective.
Fox News is not "fair and balanced." If you accept Fox News as "fair and balanced", I have to assume you'd feel the same about Rush Limbaugh, right? On second thought, maybe he's a bit too liberal for you...
The use of the Internet has not affected the English language. Not to a great degree anyway. But, IMHO, it has affected English language USAGE, as has the inept job of English instruction by our public school systems.
The media does not have a social responsibility to promote positive body images. Can't you just imagine what would happen? The obese and anorexic models, facing chronic unemployment, would sue the media under the Americans with Disabilities Act...and win!
NBC's coverage of the 2008 Olympic Games was satisfactory. A fabulous games and fabulous coverage! I still have hours of TiVo'd coverage yet to watch but have loved what I've seen. To be fair, TiVo helps race through the dull races.
The federal government should not regulate violence on television. If they did, bye-bye to coverage of the Iraq war, right? Guess that's one way to get the public to forget about it.
Tim Russert's death did not merit the media coverage it received. If you tacked together all the tributes and obituaries to this man, they would consume about three years longer than his entire lifespan. "He'll be missed" would've been fine...
Advertisements can have artistic value. And a chili stain on your shirt can also have artistic value. But that doesn't imply that you LIKE having a chili stain on your shirt, does it?
The decibel level of television commercials should not be regulated. Hey, there's TiVo, remotes with volume and mute buttons...are you kidding me? We have to pass a LAW 'cause you're too lazy to deal with commercials???
Reality television has had a positive impact on the quality of programming. If you judge quality by audience size, then the effect is positive. If you judge quality on any other basis, then that's one reason why you're not running a television station.
