Patents should be issued for living organisms. The horse has left the barn. We've been protecting all manner of plants for years. Last time I checked, they're "living organisms".
Humans will one day travel through time. What 1850 scientist would've predicted that someday people would use a small box to talk to people on other continents or even push a button to light up an entire house?
It should be legal for scientists to develop genetically modified human embryos. When there's a choice between science and hysteria or superstition (AKA religion), I usually side with science. In time, we'll have designer babies and the world will be better for it.
Humans will travel faster than the speed of light. 100 years ago, we couldn't imagine 100 MPH! Given the limits of current knowledge, it's loony to presume that worm holes, et al won't somehow enable this. Without it, mankind never reaches the stars.
Humans should colonize the moon. First residents: Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Rosie O'Donnell, Jesse Jackson, Paris Hilton, George W, bin Laden, O.J. & Ahmadinejad. And put the colony on the far side of the moon.
Ghosts do exist. But only in the fertile imagination of those who have a need to believe in beings without substance, e.g., gods, angels, Santa Claus, unicorns, the Tooth Fairy, etc. Time to grow up, folks...
The federal government should not subsidize the creation of new stem cell lines. Discarded embryos could yield all the stem cell lines needed if the fundamentalist Christers would get out of the way. Ever seen "embryo" or "stem cell" anywhere in the Bible? I thought not...
There is intelligent life on other planets. But the jury's still out on planet Earth...
The use of nuclear weapons can be justified. One must acknowledge that a REAL threat to the survival of the US from a totalitarian regime would justify using nukes...and any other nasty stuff in our arsenal. But Osama & friends aren't it.
Humans will make contact with intelligent extraterrestrial life. And it'll be a blast to see how Christian fundamentalists explain its relationship to passages in Genesis. "OK, there was Adam and Eve, but what about Kotor, the Maldurasian?"
The U.S. should build more nuclear power plants. France gets 70% of its energy from nuclear. It's reliable and safe, so long as it's not in the hands of the Russians or Muslim extremists.
Human cloning should be allowed. Once civilization evolves beyond all the superstitious beliefs that generate opposition, we'll find enormous benefits to human cloning. But please...NOT another George W.
Scientists should pursue embryonic stem cell research. And they will, but they won't get government funding until we get rid of lawmakers who pander to the fundamentalist Christians. Superstitious nonsense dies hard.
