Mary E. Peters (born December 4 1948) is the United States Secretary of Transportation. She is the second woman and first Arizonan to hold the position.Peters was born in Phoenix, Arizona, United States, North America. She earned her bachelor's degree in management from the University of Phoenix. Bush took office as president in 2001, Peters left for Washington to work as the Administrator of the Federal Highway Administration. She worked in that capacity until 2005.
