Public schools should not make contraceptives available to students. But they could supply them to the parents. Then if the parent wants their child to have them, they can make them available. Thats why they live at home. They are not mature enough to be on their own, making adult decsions.
College entry exams should play a major role in admissions decisions.
Sex education should begin during elementary school (before 6th grade). Given basic information that explains the biological workings of the male and female body and sex organs, most fourth and fifth graders would be much more comfortable with their bodies as well as those of their classmates. Take away the mystery and you r
Standardized tests are not an effective tool for measuring student learning. Just ask any teacher.
The government should not offer cash incentives for better student performance.
Schools should not use plastic handcuffs to restrain students. If a child is violent and requires restraint, the police need to be called and they should restrain them.
High school students should be required to pass an exit exam in order to earn a diploma. And the exam should be created and administered by the community school officials.
The No Child Left Behind Act should not be reauthorized.
States should not be forced to fund the federally mandated No Child Left Behind Act. Anything the Federal Government touches it screws up. The schools should be held to higher standards by their communities. They are the ones who are most affected by them.
Schools should not punish students for not reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Part of what makes our country great is freedom from forced allegiance.
There should be a foreign language requirement in public schools. Well rounded students should be required to learn at least one language besides the one that they speak in their home.
Arts programs are an essential part of education.
The U.S. military should be allowed to recruit in public high schools. I find people who are hostile toward recruiters at high schools to be highly suspect of their intentions.
Private school is the most effective method of education.
American schools should not offer bilingual classes for native Spanish-speakers.
School districts should not give parents a choice of schools.
It is acceptable for courses on the Bible to be taught in public schools. As long as they are an elective and not a required part of the core curriculum.
Schools receiving federal funds should not be required to disclose student information to the military.
All-day kindergarten should not be mandatory.
The No Child Left Behind Act has been effective.
Race should not be a factor when assigning students to public schools.
Colleges should allow fraternities and sororities.
Teachers should not receive performance-based merit pay. Teaching is not a job. Teaching is the same as being a police officer or fire fighter. It's a calling. Their pay is the satisfaction of knowing they can make a difference in young lives.
I rate America's education system "Unsatisfactory."
There is political bias in academia. Take a few college courses and find out for yourself.
The government should issue vouchers for private school tuition. As long as there is no religious affilliation with the school.
Schools should not practice social promotion. Any more than someone who fails their drivers test be given a license.
The public school systems in America would not be improved if they were federalized.
Prayer should be permitted in public schools. It is our right as Americans to have freedom of religion. If a child chooses to bow their head and pray silently, no one should object. Only an evil, twisted, controlling individual could ever find fault with someone doing that.
The classroom is not an appropriate venue for teachers to express their political opinions. If it's in the context that their opinion is the "right" one to have. My high school years were spent with more than one teacher who would spin the lesson in a way that put politicians of that particular day in a positive or negative light depending on w
Abstinence-only sex education should be taught in schools. Of course. We've been teaching them everything else these past forty or fifty years and look where it got us.
Public schools should be funded through property tax. By using property taxes, the residents of the school district retain control of the schools curriculum and staff. Those paying the bills can better administer the monies collected. Income tax takes the control away from the local community and allows ou
A school should not have the right to require that a student take Ritalin or similar drugs. No more than a Government be allowed to force women to have abortions, or men to have vacectomies. Ritalin and other controlled substances used to alter childrens minds to improve attention and behavior, should only be administered by parents with the bl
Public schools should require students to wear uniforms. The parents in my schools have brought this issue on themselves. Children wearing $500.00 tennis shoes and carrying designer bags have put fashion before education. These expensive clothes and accessories are supplied by parents who are making the liv
Race should not be a factor in the university admission process. This is not 1968, 78', 88', or 98'. This is 2008. As we are on the brink of electing an African American President, we need to step back and take a breath on the issue of Affirmative Action. What kind of message are we sending when we give preferental
Private schools should not receive public funding. Never. Under any circumstances.
