hmmmm her daughter getting pregnant doesn't make sarah immoral but the daughter. The incumbent always wins a presidential reelect unless their is something really wrong. With all the racisit votes you had for him I see it a waste of time for her to run. However, the republican party has to throw someone out to the wolves & why not her. Will get her ready for hillary 2016. She's a better choice then butch!!!

Is the Maverick regretting Sarah Palin right now? Many seemed a little confused by the huge crowds that come to see Palin and all the media coverage, but this was probably the worst pick McCain could have made, besides maybe Lieberman. Palin only excited and galavanized people who were already going to vote for McCain. Her favorability ratings are much lower than any other candidate, even lower than Dan Quayles in '92. The largest paper in Alaska has no come out and endorsed Obama, citing the fact that Palin is clearly not ready to be one heart beat away from the presidency.

I'm not seeing how aesthetics come to play at all... but I will say that the People picture looks like the Stepford Wives. Is Wednesday there in front a McCain or a Palin?

Do you want a country that looks like the McCains and Palins, or one that looks like the Obamas and Bidens? Now that's a substantive question as well as an aesthetic one. We must all vote our consciences on this.

Since when have elections been about the issues?
The neighbor's house could be on fire and the American people's eyes will be glued to CSI and American Idol and news-drama.

So now we know she's capable of being an aggressive attack-dog and Republican Cheerleader, but how will she changed healthcare? education? Iraq? Pakistan? Afghanistan? Enough with her quips about Obama, we get it, and yes Sarah, we know the press is evil an elitist, enough. Enough about energy, we get it, Alaska will solve all of our oil problems. Hopefully, the McCain camp will not keep her holed up and away from the evil press, so she can help answer those questions.

I definitely think it's fair to ask, especially for somebody we do not know who wants such an important position. Daily Kos put something out there because there's such a paucity of information and McCain or Nicole Wallace isn't going to come right out and share with us all the skeletons they were able to inventory. Right now, there's a lot being thrown on the walls to see what sticks, it's completely fair and the price you pay for being an unknown, everybody has to go through it. Hillary went through it for 8 years as First Lady.
What we do know about Palin includes advocacy of her social and family values--so no, I don't think it's that far-fetched to ask questions about her family, especially after she pushes her social and cultural agenda in her political work. It's completely fair to ask if her family walks the talk--and clearly it doesn't as we see with a pregnant, wild seventeen year old cavorting with a self described "fucking redneck."(such a man of Christian honor, he sounds). Palin claims the pristine mantle of the Christian Moral Authority, but now we know her family isn't so clean.
But I think these questions come in the wake of people being upset with why John McCain would put an unknown into such an important role when the American people are so unfamiliar with her. Why is he asking us to take the gamble with him? It's not uncommon, press included, to ask the question of "what else will we find out about her..." all questions about Palin benefit the good of the public at this point.
Also using moral high road card with other writers isn't a wise choice. I'm not a saint but I'm not the devil either for wanting to ask questions, especially if they make you and others uncomfortable. We all have a right to ask and know.

Sorry if you got the impression that I read People. My sarcasm doesn't transcribe well into written word. I find very few things 'cute' and the McCain-Palin family is not one of them, I assure you. But where did you get the idea in my critique of Daily Kos' report that I was deferring to People and Vogue to be a news source?
I don't subscribe to the notion that EVERYTHING is fair game, so when an agenda-drive blog falsely reports a despicable lie to further advance said agenda, I'm going to have issues with that outlet being an acceptable news site.
Are YOU, Lil Tuffy, suggesting that Daily Kos was practicing responsible journalism for the good of public opinion?
9/2/2008 6:21:02 PM
If you check my stand, gethro's reaction was actually my prediction for a portion of America's reaction to Palin. You can respect Palin and her beliefs, but the more important question is whether or not she is ready to lead the country, not whether or not she's a good mom. And if God forbid McCain were to croak, I would assuredly not want her as the President of the United States as I would not want my mother to be the President of the United States, or the soccer mom next door.

If Daily Kos is a rag, what does that make your precious love of People Magazine with puff pieces about Palin? Are you suggesting that instead of scrutinizing this individual with difficult questions in an attempt to understand how she would factor in one of the world's most important jobs, we just defer to People and Vogue Magazine and feel assured by her cutesy OKey-Dokey, awh shucks stories about how great and wonderful her family is, feel good stories about moose burgers and listening to this completely awesome super mom loves her awesome "first dude".
Do you honestly think Palin will able to ride this "Super Mom" mythology. Trust me, it will be the mommy mafia that will come and rip her apart first...
Gethro, is the first presidential campaign you've been covering...haven't you figured it out that EVERYTHING about Palin and everyone else is fair game? This isn't the Miss Alaska pageant, sweetie, she's playing with the big kids now.
9/2/2008 1:17:49 PM
please, please, please stop believing everything you hear in the liberal blogosphere. Daily Kos is officially rag with a clear agenda. You shouldn't be allowed to vote if you're going to jump to conclusions when these stupid sites try and push their views via false news reports. Fucking criminal.

Mothers react to Palin
9/2/2008 9:55:11 AM
Palin is a psychological tactic on the Republicans' part. She's a diva on a pedestal, a "hot chick" with an "attitude", a symbol. Maybe they even put her in in mockery of Obama's supposed religious following of people.
Looking at her track record though she's a terrible terrible person. It's okay to disagree, and for people to have their own opinions, but you don't want people with extreme beliefs like her running a country or in government. Government needs to be neutral and unbiased, and open-minded.
9/2/2008 9:20:29 AM
Interesting, Palin is against sex-ed programs and against an abortion even in the case of her own daughter being raped. Okay, she's maybe outside the mainstream here, a tad, maybe?
9/1/2008 5:45:04 PM
There's already some freaky shizzle coming out of Alaska, like her last child with Downs, Trig, is in fact her grandchild. Apparently it's a much talked about, big rumor in Alaska; Palin out-of-nowhere announced that she was SEVEN months pregnant and clearly did not show...everyone believes that it was her teenage daughter,Bristol was the one who was pregnant. Daily Kos is one of the blogs breaking the story...very interesting if true, and certainly bolsters her credentials as a pathological politician.

More important, no one (other than a handful of ultra liberal bloggers) is talking about the fact that Johnny Mac turned 72 on Friday, either. Even if this was a mock-pick that will be replaced at the RNC, it's serving its purpose despite the fact that a number of Republicans actually aren't thrilled with it right now (but regardless, their party would be destroyed if they didn't vote for the ticket because there's pretty much no chance they'll win back the House or Senate majority in November... and they know that). However, she's a textbook conservative and on paper it makes a lot of sense. The problem is the practicality of the pick come election time and with the independent and undecided voting bloc. Does anyone actually trust this woman to be President if after the inauguration, Big Mac crokes? (sp?) Most Republicans fear the Democrat ticket and most Democrats fear the Republican ticket. So much for a relatively bi-partisan election. Save the Independents, this one should now breakdown by party lines regardless of what the polls say now. Either way, it'll be a historical one, for sure.

Brian linking to the Huff Post!? An article trying to spin nothing into something!? Color me shocked.
Palin's got the goods, folks. Ya'll should be concerned. No one's talking about Obama's speech...no one's talking about Obama period. We're seeing this confident pretty woman with a strong personality walking around, smiling with McCain. Americans are fickle and they'll turn on a dime with this stunt.

Palin campaigning in Pennsylvania today:
"It's great to see another part of the country," she said. She also said she'd managed to get a little sleep during the night.
Cool, I get to travel with this job. Jesus Christ. Well, yes, you have to see the country before you can manage it, i guess.
8/30/2008 7:28:44 PM
Hah. It looks like a bad upcoming sitcom. Our tacky first family. Imagine if they actually won.
8/30/2008 7:17:24 PM
Gethro, I'm also really surprised you read People magazine. That's some seriously low-brain shizzle your working.
8/30/2008 3:52:21 PM
cute!? Where is McCain's adopted daughter, the one from Bangledesh? Such a pretty parcel of white people. McCain looks so uncomfortable.
8/30/2008 3:51:19 PM
People Magazine scored the first interview with the McCain and Palin families..
Cute....

to Margot Darby:
Your assertion about Palin having more executive experience is incorrect. Obama has spent the last 18 months, the equivalent time of Palin's governorship, running a $200MM national campaign against a REAL female leader, understanding the issues that are affecting the entire country, not just Alaska. In addition, as a senator he was also extensively involved in foreign affairs. Palin to date has ZERO national domestic experience and ZERO foreign experience. Not to mention she has 5 kids, one with DS--how on earth can she really be ready to assume one of the most important jobs on earth. I'm sorry, I'm sure this person is very decent and all, but that's not the necessary requirements for the job, especially with McCain turning 72. Palin would be another Bush.
8/30/2008 12:24:26 PM
She was an athlete and her father was a track coach. Yeah, she reminds me a little of a coach I know.
8/29/2008 11:01:56 PM
I'll take Palin for Prez and Mac for Vice. Palin's had more executive experience than Obama, McCain and Biden combined. Drill in Alaska? Of course. That's what it's there for. Anyway I always liked Michael Palin.
8/29/2008 10:54:46 PM
Anti-gay, anti-choice, pro drilling (only to benefit her state, typical politician), against universal healthcare, who in the world would want to vote for this lady...
8/29/2008 5:52:02 PM
ROFLMAO @ ID
Sarah Palin is an insult to the American people. To believe that we are such a primitively minded society that our libido will guide our hands in the voting booths.
And this Sarah lady is way too conservative. I like McCain better. Well "did". Now I've completely lost all respect for him. Desperation does these things to people.
8/29/2008 5:49:06 PM
Okay, another important fact about Palin...she believes in Intelligent Design being taught in schools as a scientific theory. You can debate that issue here on the site.
8/29/2008 3:58:11 PM
Palin: everything I learned, I learned on the basketball court (Alaskan high school basketball). Hmm??? The former beauty queen has been governor of Alaska for less than two years. Based on population figures it's like having the Mayor of Milwaukee one heart beat away from the Oval Office. McCain clearly doesn't take his job very seriously.
8/29/2008 3:46:59 PM
Seriously, if McCain is elected who would he put up as Secretary of State, Miss Buffalo Chip 2008?
8/29/2008 3:08:30 PM
Lol. I wonder who thought this one up.
8/29/2008 12:25:25 PM
I just cannot believe he would do something so rash and foolish. Pundits are being kind (for now) euphemistically saying McCain likes a game of craps, but crap, this isn't one of those decisions with which you throw strategy out the window. The "inexperience argument" is dead, he can't use it or it will sound hollow and he, incompetent. She raises many questions that will begit messy answers. He has to be hoping that she will be some kind of beauty pageant side show mess that'll deflect from real arguments and make him look even more desirable, but now everyone is terrified that he'll die and we'll have the former mayor of Wisela Alaska as the POTUS. Scary.
8/29/2008 12:03:48 PM
I'm still waiting for the McCain camp to say, "ahah, August fools," or something. Is this a joke?
8/29/2008 11:39:41 AM
hmm..not many opinions to compare them on. I'd much rather prefer to take Palin out on a date than McCain though.
