Prior to Katrina, local and federal authorities knew the breaching of the levees was possible.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management should euthanize wild horses to curb overpopulation.
The cap and trade system would be more effective at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Congress should raise the gas tax.
Government should regulate mercury levels in the environment.
Governments should create mandatory recycling programs.
Expanded ethanol production will have a negative overall impact on the environment.
Plastic grocery bags should not be banned.
The benefits of recycling outweigh the costs.
States should be allowed to adopt tougher fuel efficiency regulations than the federal standard.
The EPA does not effectively protect the environment.
The U.S. government should provide incentives for manufacturers to build fuel-efficient cars.
Expanded ethanol production will have a negative effect on the economy. Corn is a dead end. We should be exploring other bio options before we use a food product. There are plenty out there that work better.
Reducing meat consumption is an effective way to combat global warming. Effective, yes. Reasonable, no. A large enough number of people would have to give up eating meat for it to have a positive effect on the environment, and I think that meat eating is far too culturally entrenched for that to happen.
The federal government should not release oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. 90 days of oil for EMERGENCIES. $4/gallon hardly seems like an emergency to me.
It is inconclusive to say there is a link between global warming and the rising intensity of natural disasters. It sure seems like it is, but there are so many variables when you are talking about the weather you can't decisively say it's caused by global climate change.
Polar bears should be listed under the Endangered Species Act.
Buying a used conventional engine car is not more environmentally friendly than buying a new hybrid. I would have thought that it was, but it turns out that in the long run buying a hybrid is actually more eco friendly. Has to do with updated production techniques.
The U.S. can meet all of its energy demands within 10 years through carbon-free sources. Possible. If the same effort is thrown behind this that was applied to the Manhattan Project, or the space race, certainly. Unlikely though. We're too addicted to comfort, and too many are getting far too rich on oil.
The government should regulate greenhouse-gas emissions. I'd like for my city to stay above water please...
The U.S. should not permit commercial logging in national forests.
The U.S. should have signed the Kyoto Treaty.
Congress should not lift the ban on offshore oil drilling. The extra oil generated by this measure would be a minor drop in the bucket and would have no effect on gas prices in America. IN FACT, most of it would be used by the new oil mega-consumers China and India. But, sure, let's continue to destroy the eco-sy
Global warming is a problem primarily caused by humans; higher average temperatures are partly or entirely the result of human actions.
The U.S. should not expand oil and gas drilling in the Gulf of Mexico.
The U.S. government should increase the national gas mileage standard.
The U.S. should not allow drilling in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. (ANWR).
Global warming is a problem that humans must take actions to address.
