Exclusive sales agreements between service providers and handset makers are anti-competitive.
I would not prefer a laptop with a touchscreen interface. Um, I'm not sure what I'd gain from it... but then I didn't realize I wanted a touch screen phone until I got one. That said, what made the iPhone's touchscreen so useful was the fact that it maximized screen real-estate. Made watching video on a phone suddenly realistic.
Digital technology has had a positive effect on the quality of filmmaking.
The Internet has had a positive impact on the film industry.
The rise of portable media does not contribute to social isolation.
Firefox is the best web browser. I bet I'd like Chrome a whole bunch... if it ran on my Macintosh. Feh. What is this, 1995?
The brand was the deciding factor in my most recent purchase of a portable media player. I hate to admit it, because the idea of buying something based on its brand makes my skin itch, but I bought both an iPod and iPhone based on the brand.
I will upgrade to the iPhone 3G S. eventually...
Microblogging will not replace traditional blogging. Blogging and microblogging are actually 2 different things, and they meet 2 different sets of needs. As much as we have short attention spans, and are addicted to sound bites, there will always be a need for more information/analysis than a 140 character count offers.
Nintendo Wii should be considered a form of exercise.
Twitter is the best social networking tool for micro-blogging. Guess it depends on what you mean by 'best'... I'd say Twitter because it has the widest reach, and is the most flexible/customizable. Tumblr is a much more blog like/satisfying experience, but, well, the power of Twitter has more to do with how you can mine the tweets for data.
Web sites with user-generated editorial content should compensate contributors. If possible...
Google is the best search engine. Best is so subjective. I think we are getting to the point where different search engines may be used for different things. I'm definitely not using Google to search for tweets, or blog entries, but, yeah, I think Google is ubiquitous, they spend a huge amount of money and effort on R&D, and they are here to stay. Sorry Bing.
"Bing" will increase Microsoft's search engine market share. Sure. A little bit. But not enough. Sorry Microsoft...
Wikipedia is more reliable than a traditional encyclopedia. Absolutely. With some caveats. But the fact that multiple experts can contribute, that you don't have to wait for an entire publishing cycle to put new content into wiki, and that the content isn't constrained by the cost of paper, or the length of a printed book, means that the Wikipedia is has more and better information than a traditional encyclopedia.
The Kindle DX will not help reverse the newspaper industry's decline. Possibly. But the newspaper industry needs a lot more than just another distribution platform. It needs a more sustainable business model, it needs to maintain relevancy, it needs new ways to make money (Craig's List did a lot more to damage newspapers than the recession), etc.
I would read books on a portable electronic device. Yup. So long as it came close to the experience of reading print on paper. Resolution is important.
I'm a Mac. I use both, I design for both, both drive me #@)_($ crazy... but I can't bring myself to say I'm a Unix, so I guess mac it is.
Sega Genesis was a better 16-bit video game console than Super Nintendo. This one is soooo freakin' hard. Total toss up. Sonic vs. Super Mario World... and while I'm a huge fan of Mario Carts, back then, it was Sonic or nothing.
There is no link between cell phone use and cancer.
Member opinions are more interesting to read than public figure opinions on whereIstand.com. The members opinions can definitely be more colorful.
whereIstand.com does not have a problem with profanity and insults.
Gmail is the best e-mail service provider.
Mac OS X is the best operating system for the average user.
Nintendo Wii is the best seventh-generation video game console. This is a really tricky one. Best is pretty subjective. If you said graphics, then probably the PSIII (which also introduced Blu-Ray to a ton of consumers btw) But I think the Wii is the biggest game changer. It is the console the others are chasing now. Like the iPhone it introduced a whole new control method, which opened up the gaming industry to non-traditional customers. We even have a debate now about if playing video games can be healthy or not. Try having that pre 2007.
Consumer electronic platforms for reading e-books and periodicals will not replace print media.
Frequent use of portable media players does not present a serious risk of hearing loss.
A significant percentage of consumers will not replace all of their personal electronic devices with an iPhone.
U.S. Customs agents should not be allowed to search laptops without reasonable suspicion.
Mark Zuckerberg should not be replaced as CEO of Facebook. He's CEO of one of the most successful web properties. What's the rationale in replacing him? "Facebook posted huge numbers of its own in March, growing 23.4 percent month-over-month to more than 91 million US visitors. That represents nearly 200 percent annual growth..."
Technological advancements tend to improve human life.
Employers should have the right to fire workers for content posted on social networking sites. I agree with @jawlaw on this one...
The FCC should allow companies to provide free, ad-supported, national wireless Internet access.
Facebook's upgrade to a real-time home page is better than the previous design.
Facebook should not use an open source model to develop their terms of service. Hmmm. Open source? What would that mean? Enabling users to write the tos? Or edit it? I don't think that model would work. They should definitely poll their users and involve them in the process. Maybe it's just semantics, but open source isn't right for this kind of application.
Websites should maintain legal rights over a member's content after the account is deleted. It's not a should. If you've shared content with another user and you close your account, then the website must maintain legal rights over your account content.
Twitter should allow users to filter search results by a member's follower count. Sure. Why not?
Social media will not replace traditional news sites as the primary source of news on the internet. Nah. There will be a mix. Though I guess it depends on what you mean by social media. Is the Huff Post social or traditional news?
High-speed Internet access should not be free. Honestly, I'd love if it were, but I don't see how it could be. There are associated costs that need to be covered. If it were "free" we'd pay for it in the form of taxes.
The presidential debates will have a significant effect on voters' decisions in 2008.
