K through 12 education should be separated by gender. If extensive research and case studies strongly support that those born as male or female learn better in a separate academic setting due to cognitive differences, then I say classrooms should be segregated in this manner. However, schools should be Co-Ed when it comes to the common areas, lunch, and free periods. Otherwise, students will miss out on crucial development as it pertains to social interaction.
Meditation should be incorporated into education. Not as a class to study, a requirement or anything of that nature, but promoting meditation as a way for students to deal with high stress levels could be a positive thing. While extracurricular activities can be a stress reducer, they can also raise stress levels. Meditation is something that can help students find clarity and calm while seeking balance. Simply promoting this concept certainly can't hurt.
I rate America's education system "Unsatisfactory."
College entry exams should play a minor role in admissions decisions.
Sex education should begin during middle school (6th-8th grade).
There should be a foreign language requirement in public schools. Globalization is here to stay. It's important for youth all over the world to have appropriate linguistic tools at their disposal. What else is school for if not to give that to them?
Standardized tests are not an effective tool for measuring student learning.
The No Child Left Behind Act has not been effective.
The classroom is an appropriate venue for teachers to express their political opinions. Since I'll assume we're talking about college-level teachers, I'm going to say yes... the classroom should be open to debate and real discussion. After all, how else would all the lawyers in the world learn about making closing arguments?
Arts programs are an essential part of education. Cultivating creativity is essential to development.
Race should not be a factor in the university admission process.
The No Child Left Behind Act should not be reauthorized. Obviously, it's a tough decision since it worked so well...
Teachers should receive performance-based merit pay. Positive results are key in the profession, so why shouldn't a teachers performance level be compensated appropriately? After all, we give scholarships to students for academic excellence... why should teachers not be credited with more than just a plaque
Prayer should be permitted in public schools. Permitted, yes. Required, no.
Abstinence-only sex education should not be taught in schools.
Public schools should not require students to wear uniforms.
