There are no circumstances under which I support capital punishment. Conflicting issue, but I have to remain morally consistent.
Roman Polanski should be extradited to the U.S. Absolutely. Would the Hollywood elitists be so eager to defend this guy if he were, I don't know, a Catholic priest?
I have never smoked marijuana.
Carrie Prejean did lose the Miss USA 2009 competition for opposing same-sex marriage. Clearly
Lust is the worst of the seven deadly sins. As a couch potato, I personally support sloth. But seeing as lust is in direct contradiction to the Ninth and Tenth Commandments, I'll go there.
Racial profiling was not a factor in the arrest of Professor Gates.
The arrest of Henry Louis Gates, Jr. was justified. It was Gates who overreacted against an officer with an exemplary serice record.
Dogs are better pets than cats. Dogs are man's best friend for a reason. Sure they're more high-maintenance than cats, but what a good dog gives back more is more than worth it. I rescue dogs and I can't imagine a more noble animal.
God is just. As a Catholic, it's hard to answer any other way; God is just, it's man that is not.
God is infallible. As a devout Catholic, it would be hard for me to answer that any other way.
Religious compatibility is an important component to a romantic relationship. While there are no guarantees, shared values are important. As a Catholic, having a partner who understands the sacramentality of our marriage enables us to endure difficult moments (of which there are many) with a sense of peace.
Prostitution should not be legal. It dehumanizes women and sex into mere commodities.
Political compatibility is not an important component to a romantic relationship. My wife and I see the world from two distinct perspectives. Tolerance and respect, more than compatibility, are what matters.
Economic downturns do not lead to increases in crime. Is there evidence to supoort this? I have no idea.
Christianity is thriving. I am not sure what we mean by "trending." If we mean numbers, it's probably stagnant, but if we mean in terms of the mission, despite the cynics, I believe Christianity remains a powerful force for good in the world. If you think about it... absent the Catholic Church and its Orthodox and Protestant counterparts who would stand up for unborn children, the elderly ... even those on death row? Who would argue against the dangers of moral relativism? The Church carries the message of Jesus to hospitals, hospices, soup kitchens and more. The mission remains as relevant as ever.
Mormons are not Christian. It is only recently in fact that Mormons themselves have expressed a desire to be considered Christian. While I respect the faith and life commitment of the LDS greatly, the issue for me is that Christianity through Jesus represents a continuity of the Old Testament and the Church in all of its history and literature must bear witness to that. As I understand them, the sacred writings of the LDS depart from that tradition. I am open to being convinced otherwise, however.
Marijuana should not be legal.
Couples should celebrate Valentine's Day. Why not??
Jesus Christ was a real-life person. That Jesus lived is a matter of history. That he was the Christ is a matter of faith. He is to me.
Monogamy is natural. I don't find it unnatural nor do I find it difficult. You think of the other person before you think of yourself, and treat them the way you want to be treated.
God is neither man nor woman; God has no gender. God, according to any scriptural analysis is a spirit. Of course, I assume we mean God the father in the Christian understanding since God the son is very definitely a man.
Women should not serve as clergy. Difficult question for us Catholics. My instincts tell me it would be a better, holier and more inclusive church if we had a gender-neutral clergy. But the Catholic Church claims its primacy through apostolic succession; and as such recognizes only the ma
A world without religion would be worse. Imagine a world without Catholic Charities, New York Presbyterian Hospital, the St. Jude Children's Hospital, Jewish and Muslim charitable organizations. It is unfair and in my view unwise to blame "religion" for the evil acts perpetrated by misguided ex
Religious leaders should speak out on political matters. It is our responsibility as believers to craft a better world as our forefathers in faith would have us do.
Catholic priests should not be permitted to marry. We must respect the traditions, as well as the canons of our faith.
