Should employers be required to offer health insurance to full-time employees?
Should the Guantanamo detention center be closed?
Should the federal government pass the proposed $700 billion financial system bailout?
Should the U.S. government subsidize corn-based ethanol?
Should adults be required by law to purchase health insurance?

Good points. The differences between Hillary and McCain are stark. To try and measure the level of spite that might be going on here you have to imagine, are these people saying Obama is worse than George Bush? Because if they are going to vote for McCain out of spite than they are insistent upon four more years of the same nonsense.

It's absurd that people would choose McCain over Obama in spite of the fact that they are most likely democrat, and that mature adults would choose the path of spite over the path of progression.

53% of Hillary supporters are now saying they'll vote for Obama, up from 40% just two months ago. Still, I thought it would be much higher than that. 23% are saying they will vote for McCain. I believe strongly that number will be down around 15% as we get closer to November when they realize McCain's positions.

Obama and Hillary making first campaign stop together today. MSNBC is reporting that there is still a lot of tension between the two camps. Question, does Obama really need the Clintons? He's up 15 points nationally and is beating McCain amongst independents. Last night on Keith Olbermann he mentioned that polling suggests 28% would vote for the Democratic ticket if Hillary was on it, vs. 25% who vote for the Republican ticket if she was. It's a wash!

If Obama loses and he didn't tap Hillary, any close call where 100% of registered dems didn't come out to vote will be seen as the one that got away.

It appears to me that Obama wins the primaries because they are designed in a way that is very different from the general election. It will be hubristic to not ask Hillary to join.

... by the same token, it's undignified for Hillary to ask and he should help her save face by either inviting her now or rejecting the notion entirely....

Let's stop pretending like "purple states" actually exist. The fact is that it all depends on who McCain's VP running mate is. If he goes Romney, Huckabee, or Crist, then the Dems don't really have a shot at any state that regularly goes Republican in general elections. As usual, it's about reaffirming their grasp on Ohio, Pennsylvania, and / or Florida. Now, the trouble is that if McCain picks Crist, then the Dems will likely lose in Florida regardless of who Senator Obama chooses. At that point, Ohio and Pennsylvania are vital to the Dem ticket's chances. I'm not saying that Hillary is a necessity by any means, but some of her voting block in those two states could easily be persuaded by the Republican ticket if she's not in the race. It's happened before... Also, just because the states are taking a chance on Democratic governors or senators, doesn't mean they're sure fire "purple states" in a Presidential election. Making assumptions like that is dangerous on behalf of the DNC and it's supporters.

She hurts him in purple states where Independents hate her and he does well, like Virginia, Colorado, Iowa, etc. With her, what states does he win that he wouldn't without her? New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts? Give me a break. The Clinton's would completely undermine his candidacy and only be a distraction.

Both candidates represent a strong base of democrats. What better way to unify the democratic party?

I like this ticket. I think Obama has everything to gain and little to lose by asking Hillary. I also think if he wins the nomination and picks some southerner that will add ZERO to his results in the general election, he will regret his mistake just as much as others have that made famous VP selection errors... McGovern, Gore, Kerry... yes, Kerry! Edwards did not bring in a single state in the general election!

Screw the South! Pick a liberal!
