The Philadelphia Phillies will win the 2009 World Series. For two reasons: Number one, I don't like the Yankees! Number two, Governor Rendell needs an excuse to spend a ludicrous amount of money in Philadelphia. He's been doing that without excuses for too long now!
Major League Baseball should not use instant replay to review umpires' decisions. Absolutely not! If they did, we'd lose some of the most entertaining parts of the game - coaching staff getting into screaming matches with the umpires.
Plaxico Burress' jail sentence was not appropriate. Hell no!! Not long enough! This falls under my basic theory that professional athletes should be held to a much higher standard than they are. If your picture and stats are being published on shiny little cards for our youth to collect and trade, you deserve to have the highest penalties allowed by law when you decide to break the law. And there shouldn't be "second chances". The professional sports leagues should be ashamed of themselves for allowing felons back on the fields of play, period. These people are supposed to be heroes for our youth. Someone please tell me what is heroic about criminal charges???
Derek Jeter should win the 2009 American League MVP. As fiance says, it's not just about numbers. Jeter's a leader.
Seattle Seahawks will win the 2009 NFC West. Not big on sports, keep getting asked on these things, and honestly just think that lightning isn't striking twice for Arizona. So this isn't so much picking Seattle as it is saying it won't be the Cardinals.
Pittsburgh Steelers will win the 2009 AFC North. As if a Pittsburgher would pick another team!!
I do not like running as a form of exercise. My knees have hated it for over 20 years now.
The NFL should not allow Michael Vick to play in the 2009 season. The NFL needs to ban him for life. But that would require that someone in the NFL recognize that professional football players should be held to a higher standard in the first place. Unfortunately the organization is more concerned with the almighty dollar than it is with maintaining standards that would make the players worthy of being considered heroes by today's youth.
Drew Brees should not be the first quarterback chosen in 2009 fantasy football drafts. Should be Big Ben, but what other answer would you expect from a Pittsburgher who doesn't do fantasy football! ;-)
Golf should not be an Olympic sport. It has more than enough to keep growing on its own.
Rio de Janeiro should host the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. For many reasons, not the least of which being the economy there. Definitely a better choice when it comes to scenery.
The entire list of 104 players who tested positive for steroids in 2003 should be made public. As a parent, I would like to know this. I don't want to encourage my kids to consider these players as role models.
Pete Rose should not be allowed in the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame needs to be about more than accomplishments on the diamond or in the dugout. It needs to be about maintaining high standards in life as well. If you can't consider someone a true role model for the youth, that person doesn't belong in the Hall of Fame.
Home-field advantage in the World Series should not be awarded to the team whose league wins the All-Star Game. Home-field advantage should be given to the team that earns it. All-Star Game results should have absolutely nothing to do with it.
The elliptical provides the best aerobic workout from a stationary machine. Lowest amount of pressure on joints outside of water, with the largest range of motion makes it the best. Would be very happy if I could fit one in my house!
Roger Clemens should be voted into the Hall of Fame. Because fiance says he's one of the best. (I don't "do" baseball!)
The NFL should consider playing the Super Bowl outside of the U.S. Why not? It's good when it's in a warm place, and there's a limited number of those in the U.S. in February!
Management is more responsible for the proliferation of steroid use in Major League Baseball. Management needs to well....manage. Beyond the current penalties against the players, they need to add new ones that would be levied if the players protect their suppliers. Once the suppliers are known, go after them - put them up for public ridicule and criminal charges as well. Destroy their careers in sports medicine - they have no business being there anyway. Then see how many will be doping.
Horse racing is humane. For the most part, yes. There are abuses as with any other sport, including those without animals.
Olympic athletes should not be discouraged from speaking out about political issues.
The U.S. should not boycott the Beijing Olympics. But I would prefer to say yes. Only reason I can't bring myself to say boycott is because we have an Olympic hopeful in our town - I'm friends with the family.
Sports bloggers should not be given the same access to teams as the media. I was tempted to say yes, but I couldn't without a specification that the bloggers approached their writing like traditional journalists. Bloggers probably should never have blanket access to sports figures. It should be like most other subject areas. Blo
The Division I NCAA Tournament should not be expanded to more than 65 teams.

UNKNOWN: Is sabermetrics an effective way to evaluate baseball talent?
