Cell phones should not be banned in public schools. I was leaning toward banning them, and then I thought: Columbine. Although generally rare, there is a definite positive side to students having cell phones in such circumstances. And banning lends itself to yet another "zero tolerance" policy - something I hate more than unrest in schools.
If a nuclear weapons program is discovered in Iran, I would support a preemptive military strike. Diplomacy and sanctions are unlikely to be successful - as in they have less of a chance than the Pittsburgh Pirates have at winning the World Series this year! I normally am opposed to the concept of waging war overseas because it typically involves settling issues that a given nation should settle on its own. This is the exception to that rule. Bottom line is that Iran must absolutely never develop nuclear weapons, and there shouldn't be a limit on what the U.S. and its allies can do to stop that.
"Bing" will increase Microsoft's search engine market share.
The iPod is better than the Zune. Easily. This is an iPod house with two nanos and two shuffles, and will undoubtedly end up with a couple more nanos.
Twitter should allow users to filter search results by a member's follower count. Personally, I'd love to be able avoid the masses on a search, particularly on the rare occasions that I'm looking for information on a trending topic.
There should be a permanent moratorium on state and local taxes on Internet access. States and Localities need to find another source of income instead of taxing internet access. Communications taxes in general are out of control, but particularly taxation on internet usage is completely inappropriate.
Firefox is the best web browser. Can't say it's the most popular, but I must say that it's the only one that I haven't had the uncontrollable urge to remove from my system. Must admit I haven't tried all the options given, but of the ones I have, I've only used IE to download Firefox on my current computer. The other browsers had been on previous computers, and I'm not even curious about Chrome.
The price was the deciding factor in my most recent purchase of a portable media player. Usually am more concerned about brand (iPod), but was buying a player for a teenager. Better to get a low price then!
Web sites with user-generated editorial content should compensate contributors. That is assuming that said web site is making money. It is inappropriate for web site owners to fail to "share the wealth".
Google is the best search engine. At least it's the one I use most often. Boolean logic has not been entirely abandoned by Google, at least from what I can see. Bottom line is that I usually get what I'm looking for within the first few results offered.
Social media will not replace traditional news sites as the primary source of news on the internet. And yes. People will continue to hear about headlines first on social media sites, but will also continue to be forwarded to news sites for the details. That would change only if social media steps beyond 140 character blurbs.
Wikipedia is not more reliable than a traditional encyclopedia. Can't be, by nature of the beast. Traditional encyclopedias have editorial standards that far exceed Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a good place to start looking, but all information from there should be verified elsewhere.
The Kindle DX will help reverse the newspaper industry's decline. or maybe. Too soon to tell, although it is at least an attempt to get into the 21st century game.
Sega Genesis was a better 16-bit video game console than Super Nintendo. Was never a big gamer, but knew quite a few guys who were beyond addicted, and Sega seemed to be the most popular amongst them.
Member opinions are more interesting to read than public figure opinions on whereIstand.com. I get plenty of the public figures on my Twitter!
Mark Zuckerberg should be replaced as CEO of Facebook. Purely basing this one on my personal annoyance with the repeated "face-lifts" he undoubtedly approved.
Employers should have the right to fire workers for content posted on social networking sites. Assuming, of course, that we're referring to content that is negative toward/about said company, or is illegal on its face.
Computer literacy is an important qualification for the presidency.
News agencies should limit the content bloggers can excerpt from their articles.
A significant percentage of consumers will not replace all of their personal electronic devices with an iPhone.
