This could definitely be a fun topic. There's no shortage of opinions out there on it, for sure. And yeah, I think Jeter is a tad overrated, especially defensively. Would he be a sure-fire HOFer if he'd put up those numbers in Kansas City or Pittsburgh? On the other hand, what if Mike Sweeney had played his entire career in New York? Wouldn't he be a HOF candidate by now?
hey man, I'm just following the tide of public figure opinion...if the whereIstand community doesn't want to debate this, ok then.

He's been voted the most overrated player by his contemporaries in each of the last 2 years, but I can't say even as a Red Sox fan if I agree with that. It's certainly a matter for debate, but do we wanna go down this road? I'll defer to you guys who wear more stripes than me.

Cal Ripken, Jr.
-no world series rings -3,189 hits -2 gold gloves -.276 lifetime batting average Jeez. Why don't we debate whether Cal Ripken Jr. was the worst shortstop ever while we're at it?
Wha? What a bunch of wankers. We're actually going to debate whether a Hall of Fame lock is overrated? Guy just passed Babe Ruth on the all-time Yankee hit list and this how we're going to celebrate him? 4 world series rings closing in on 3,000 career hits 3 gold gloves .317 career batting average (5th highest among active players) The lifetime average is sick, c'mon. To put this issue up is sick too.
I don't know how this issue isn't already approved. It's such a great debate...members will love it...

We’d just like to offer our pithy, meaningless opinion on Jeter before the avalanche of OVERRATED erupts: Terrific baseball player, undeniably a Hall of Fame lock, and due to his history of postseason success, ahead of Barry Larkin and Cal Ripken if you’re doing one of those purely subjective lists of great shortstops.

NYPost - MLB Players vote DJ most overrated
Tony Clarke, in response to poll: "I would suggest is more jealousy on guys' part, in respect to how talented those two guys are, the success they've had. I think it has a lot to do with that."
Jason Giambi: "When you look at it, A-Rod is going to go down as the best player to ever play this game," Giambi said. "Just what he can do defensively, offensively - it's mind-boggling to see what he can do. Jeet's numbers speak for themselves. He has four World Series rings, plays shortstop. He does everything you can ask of a player to win ballgames," Giambi said. "These are the guys (Jeter and Rodriguez) that make the Yankees successful. You look at your two superstars and they work hard."
Bleecher Report: I just dont see how Jeter is overrated. He is a very good offensive shortstop, and he should be in the hall of fame.
Mark Bechtel: So the verdict on Jeter: a bit overrated. But he's not the most overrated player out there. Not by a long shot.
