Is it a fair position when politicans suppport limited stem cell research through only existing embryo's?

As far as I understand the process of harvesting stem cells, the moral compromise that Bush et al have made is supporting stem cell research not with existing embryos, but with existing lines - that is, stem cells that have already been harvested, a process that destroys the embryo. Which is to say, they don't support the further destruction of embryos to create new stem cell lines. So, that aspect of the issue needs to be corrected.

Also, I'm not sure what's at issue here is a question of fairness. Seems to me it's more a question of whether that position is an acceptable moral compromise - whether it really skirts the question of life.
