What is your view on gun control laws?

Current gun control laws are too strict.
There should be more measures restricting the right to own and carry a firearm.

It's true, the question is too broad. Although, it should be considered that it is the frequently asked question. When politicians and pundits talk about guns, they usually talk about "gun control" or introducing a "gun control" law. So this is the rhetoric with which we have to work.

I'm in favor of having many more specific questions relating to gun control, but also including this one.

Donovan is absolutely right.

Since we have a topic on gun control, why not focus the subtopics to specific laws?  (e.g., the assault weapons ban, the 10-day wait list debate, and other debates that are quite rich).
i'm uninformed on gun control issues.  we need someone to propose more specific and pertinent issues.   any Second Amendment/gun control junkies out there?

I don't disagree with Donovan, but I also think there's some value to taking a stand on whether you believe that, in general, gun control laws should be stricter or looser. The NRA example could technically be an instance of gun control, if we want it to be, but it's not a gun control LAW. This issue has been lingering for a while and I think it's ready to roll.

I prefer more of the very specific "Assault weapon ban" discussions to "gun control laws" - the latter is too vague.  "Gun control laws" include tort reform practices (which are usually about medical insurance), product safety regulations, ownership/licensing issues, police issues ('gun control' as 'use of force procedures'), penal rules (sentence multipliers for use of guns = a gun control law) and a litany of others.

For example, one of the strongest gun control ADVOCATES is the National Rifle Association - when gun control is perceived as ensuring safe use of firearms and laws to ensure that they are reliably accessible for sporting and self-defense purposes, but not used for criminal purposes.

Since we have a topic on gun control, why not focus the subtopics to specific laws?  (e.g., the assault weapons ban, the 10-day wait list debate, and other debates that are quite rich).

Looks good. I hope we get a few of these gun control questions passed through soon.

issue revision:

rewording a bit and then we'll approve it, i promise.
Should gun control laws be relaxed or made stricter?
Relaxed
Stricter

I too think this question should pass through to the holy land.

Let's get this one up.  I could use it for my public figure evidence work.

This works for me as well. I agree it is different than the second amendment question (especially my take on how that question should be phrased).

It took me a minute to puzzle out how this question is different from the 2nd Amendment question, but I think it is, and I think it's straightforward and well-worded.
