Will the Large Hadron Collider discover the existence of unknown particles?

They arent necessarily "new."  We just dont know about them if they do exist.

Not my favorite (I like the Boson specificity) but I think its ready.

Should we be saying "prove the existence of unknown particles" or "new particles?"

Looks ready to me!

Last call! Any objections?

Will the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) being brought online in May 2008 help humans discover new particles?

Will the Large Hadron Collider discover the existence of unknown particles.

lakeboysc, what you think? Which is more interesting to debate?

Will the Large Hadron Collider prove the existence of the Higgs boson?

or do we stick with a simplified version of your original proposal

Will the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) discover new particles?

JZipp is correct. Part of the Large Hadron Collider's entire existence is for the purpose of discovering the Higgs boson. However, I can see where Nick was trying to be more neutral in allowing people to suggest that it will somehow discover other particles, or that the Higgs boson cannot exist etc. etc. etc.

Awesome science debate! I think either of Brian's / Nick's suggestions work... probably better to go the "Higgs boson" (the B is lower case) route since according to Wikipedia, "It is the only Standard Model particle not yet observed."

I think we can cut this down to...

Will the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) discover new particles?

    or

Will the Large Hadron Collider prove the existence of the Higgs Boson?

    11/17/2008 5:32:33 PM

I already want to comment on it. Good issue.

    11/17/2008 5:31:42 PM

this is a good one, lakeboy, I was just going to propose "Will the Large Hadron Collider find the Higgs Boson?"
