I'm not sure we need this as we already have Is the FDA's drug approval process effective? On the other hand, I think what MisterE was getting at was the idea that the FDA might drag its collective feet when it comes to "alternative" remedies, maybe because they're not usually produced by major drug companies. Not sure how much debate there is about this.

hmmm..... two thoughts on this: 1---not sure whether this issue belongs in alternative medicine. we currently have an fda sub topic under health policy. i think temporarily until the new health hierarchy gets rolled out this issue should go there. 2---is there a debate on this question? from very very limited research it seems that there is recent pressure on the fda, given drug recalls such as vioxx, to ensure that their approval process is objective, unbiased (from drug companies), thoughtful and allows time for dissent. i am not sure whether there is a push to make the approval process easier right now.
