I like Brian's suggestion. Definitely a good issue with plenty of evidence available.

Oh yeah, it's a good one and I like Brian's revision.

Any takers?  This seems to be getting at the debate a little more and it's certainly separate from asking whether the parents should still be deported.

    Suggestion revision:

Should U.S.-born children of illegal immigrants become U.S. citizens at birth?

    Rep. Ron Paul:

I’ve introduced legislation that would amend the Constitution and end automatic birthright citizenship. The 14th amendment was ratified in 1868, on the heels of the Civil War. The country, especially the western territories, was wide open and ripe for homesteading. There was no welfare state to exploit, and the modern problems associated with immigration could not have been imagined.

    I like it.

I'm not sure if we've had this before or not.  I know it's a constitutional thing.  I always see it asked in interviews so I'm put it up.

John Hawkins: Do you think the children of illegal aliens who are born in the United States should automatically become citizens?

Tom Tancredo: Absolutely not. We're the only nation in the world that does such a stupid thing. It's a misinterpretation of the 14th Amendment. It was never meant to actually allow people who are here illegally to achieve legal status for their children by having them born here.
