I prefer "Can Major League Soccer achieve the popularity of other professional team sports in the U.S.?" This isn't just about predicting popularity but about the ability of soccer to become a major sport in this country.

Great issue. Its mind boggling that the U.S. refuses to embrace the beautiful game and its a worthy question to wonder why? 'Viable' is a key word to include in this issue because it demands those taking a stand to consider why soccer hasn't yet gotten traction in the states (Television and advertising restrictions, etc).

Well, this pretty much could go hand-in-hand with the David Beckham question. I like them both.
Yep, in the U.S. it's M.L.S. (Major League Soccer). The issue is somewhat newsworthy now with David Beckham having joined the L.A. Galaxy. I agree that the original wording of the issue sounds a bit pathetic! (There's a history of the sport 's popularity waxing and waning in the U.S.) Is Major League Soccer viable in the U.S. as a major (leading, top, popular) sport?

i haven't cared about sports in detail since grade school... is there a particular "league" that we can inquire as to the viability of? And if so, is it "Major League Soccer"?
i love this! The "it's possible" is like a pathetic reminder that it's not "impossible." My concern is that I think it needs to be more definite to have any teeth at all. One could say, "sure... in another thousand years there won't be any grass left to play baseball on anway...." I think it has to do with somebody taking a "measurable" stand and not a "hopeless" one. Is it "viable" as a major sport? etc.
