    maybe brian is right.  we can ask whether the military action has been successful and the blogs can talk about whether US nat'l security has improved as a result.  i change my vote to:

    should we use 'military action" rather than war?

    "Has the military action in Afghanistan been successful for the U.S?"

    something about describing it as successful is weird to me.  i still prefer posing in terms of American security bc really that is why we allegedly went  into Afghanistan, correct?
